This book is about your average girl named Aislinn. Except she isn't that average: she can see fairies. Throughout her whole life, she has been told to ignore them and make sure they dont know she can see them. Most of all, never get their attention. Although she does not know why she should ignore them, she does it anyway.

That is until one day, a very attractive fairy , Kennan, happens to ask her out. Auslinn freaks out because she does not know why she is being followed by fairies. Eventually she finds out that she is the future queen of the summer court and she must rule alongside Kennan. But unfortuneatly that means giving up her life and most of all Seth, her hott "best friend".

Who will she chose? Which destiny will she chose?

Like her mother and grandmother, Aislinn was born with the ability to see fairy folk, who cavort in the streets and taunt the mortals who are unaware of their presence. For the past two weeks, shes been followed by two particular ones who seem more powerful than the resta pale girl who rides a wolf and a male with coppery hair and the shine of the sun within his skin&

Keenan, the king of the Summer court, has dreamt about her, and Aislinn is next in a long line of mortal girls who may be the sleeping Summer Queen. His mother, the Winter Queen, had him bound at birth so that his power could never overcome her own&

Donia, the last of Keenans girls to take up the challenge, now holds the chill of the Winter Queen inside her. Bound by the oath she took when she picked up the staff, Donia must make sure that Aislinn will not trust Keenan, no matter if she is the sleeping queen or not&

The fate of the entire Summer courtand humanity itselfrests with the outcome of this game, played over the past nine centuries. But now, with Aislinn as the new player, aided by her Sight and her love for another mortal, the outcome may be different this time. This deliciously written book kept me riveted until the games thrilling end.

Aslinn is an ordinary girl, with just one exception-she can see faeries. At first, this may seem really cool but, if the faeries find out that she can see them, then she will be in grave danger. Because of this, Aslinn lives in constant fear that her secret will be found out and seeks refuge in her guy friend's, Seth's, steel house. But when she catches the attention of Keenan, the Summer King, Aslinn does not know how much longer she can keep her secret (and loved ones) safe from the Faery World.
Melissa Marr's debut novel, Wicked Lovely, is a story of love and hate, good and evil, summer and winter-complete opposites that might be disasterous when used in other books, but not this one. There were some parts of the novel that I thought were boring, but, overall, this is a great book and I look forward to reading the sequel.

Simply put: I found this novel to be enchanting. It's hard to find YA novels with such lyrical words and sentences; those which flow as easy as melodious music, but Wicked Lovely did it for me.

At first it's sort of hard to get into the fantasy aspect of the novel: it's a whole different world and some of the concepts I found hard to adapt to. Some of it was hard to understand completely, why some of the characters did what they did, but by the end, I was enraptured. Such a fantastic tale! The words simply pulled me into the story and kept be riveted until the very end. Definitely one I'd recommend.

Aislinn sees faeries, but not Tinkerbell like faeries, no, these are human size or larger, and live for making trouble with the humans that can't see them. They have strength speed and power that no human could ever compete with. In the past the three rules have kept Aislinn safe, but when a faerie royalty starts following her her life becomes jeopardized, along with the lives of her family and friends. What would happen if the faeries found out that she could see them, Aislinn has to do everything in her power to try to keep the answer from happening.

Melissa Marr took a very used up topic, the secret world of faeries, and made it very original and fun. I loved the depth and descriptions of the faeries, it was easy to be pulled into this fantasy world and think it could be real. This book has everything in one, the supernatural, love, deception, and fierce battles. I also love how the narration skips between three people (well people and faeries), but it all seems unified. I love seeing different things through different points of view, it helps to understand the characters better, and i think it made this story very compelling. I'm off to start reading the second book in the series Ink Exchange.

In this story, a young girl is born with the gift to see and hear the fairies that dwell in our world. As time passes, though, she finds that on in particular continues to follow her around and when he appears to her in his human suit, she can't help but be scared. The novel goes on the work around this with the narrators shifting to show what is happening elsewhere.

This creative novel is far from cliched and works to entice the reader. This is a non-stop read and can easily be read within one sitting. The quick changing action and scenes, along with the passionate flow of romance and fantasy has enough for readers every where with the mind to believe.

Aislinn has always seen the faeries. They may be invisible to the rest of the world, but Ash can see all the awful things they do to the humans. But as long as she follows the rules, they'll never know what she can do. They've always left her alone.

But then a very important faery starts to follow her around. The stalking continues and Ash begins to realize her life in in trouble. Her grandmother has always warned her to stay away from the faeries and she and Seth had finally started to become something more then friends, but now that's all over. When a faery King chooses, it's impossible to undo what happens.

I was unsure of this book when I bought it. I knew that a lot of people did like it, but I was not sure if I would. But I tried it anyway. It sat around on my bookshelf for a few months until I realized that I've been reading, an enjoying, a lot of fantasy books recently. So I decided to read it. And I was very pleased.

Wicked Lovely was a wonderful story. The writing was done very well. The characters could have been a little more developed and it wasn't really the type of story where you can relate to the characters but it was a great fantasy story.

Told in two different perspectives at different times, this novel tells of a girls life changing for the streets of a dingy neighbor to a feary princess, literally, um queen actually, but that's irrelevant.

This is another book for me that is a love to hate but can't help but love. It's an addicting story about Aislinn's family secret and her love to a non-feary that can or hopes to withstand all - even to a Adonis like (blond hair, sparkling eyes, the works) creature. A must read to people who enjoy reading about the "other" world =)

Another amazing faery tale placed in our hands. Wicked Lovely, first of the series, brings a wonderfully written and entertaining tale.

What I liked best about Wicked Lovely was the mystery, the intrigue, the romance, and the characters. I liked how I kept trying to guess who was on whose side Keenans or the Winter Queens and how secrets are uncovered as the story goes on. I also loved the romance that was between Seth and Aislinn. However, I wasnt really sure if Keenan liked her like that and it wasnt until the end of the book that I was like, Oh. Maybe he just likes her as a friend& That part was the only real confusing scene.

Aislinn, a strong yet frightened girl, is someone I truly admire. Shes smart and knows what she should do to avoid danger; however, she will take risks if it means saving her loved ones. In a way, she is like the typical heroine brave, courageous, etc. However, the part where she is cautious and understands the threat of the faeries, is not of the norm of a classic female protagonist.

And Seth, the typical perfect boyfriend, loves Aislinn enough to stick with her even with her special qualities and loves her enough to change a part of him just for her. If there is someone out there like Seth minus the piercings because theyre kind of& *wrinkles nose* - I would totally pounce on him. Who wouldnt?

Keenan. Sigh. Even though hes supposed to be this drop-dead gorgeous faery king, I find him annoying. The fact that he will do anything to get a Summer Queen is already strike one against him. He doesnt care about Aislinns plans or desires. Strike two. The person who he truly likes, he doesnt even have the guts to go after her even when shes hurting and needs help. Strike three. And&youre out! True, he may be a strong king and whatnot, however, I didnt like him. No real compassion except when it favors him and hes a coward. He cant go against anyone to get what he wants especially the Winter Queen. And yes, I understand that he didnt have enough power, however, Im sure he could have thought of something instead of just using hundreds of girls throughout the three centuries to find just one.

Despite Keenans annoyance, Seth and Aislinn totally outweigh him and therefore, I cant wait to get a hold of the next two books in the series! :)

Wicked Lovely is a great urban fantasy tale that I fell in love with. The story is of
Aislinn, a girl who has the Sight, meaning she can see faeries. But
these aren't the cute fairies you see in stories - these are dangerous,
and if they ever found out that that Aislinn could see them, she would
be in serious trouble. To only add to her trouble, a faerie from the
faerie court seems to be pursuing her, but she doesn't know why.. add
some romantic troubles with her friend (who she wants to be more with)
Seth, and you've got yourself a yummy novel with fantasy, love,
betrayal and all that good stuff!

The only other novel I've ever read that was urban fantasy and had faeries was The Blue Girl by Charles de Lint and Valiant by Holly Black, so I wasn't really sure what to expect from Wicked Lovely.
I had only heard good things about it, so I picked up it when the
hardcover went on sale at work. My expectations were kind of high, but
not too much. I don't like to be disapointed (like with Twilight...
ugh.) Well, if it's any indication that I liked it, I managed to finish
this book in one sitting! It really is quite a treat.

The story
is one that will grip you almost right away. It's one where everyone
has difficult choices to make; everyone has something to lose,
whichever choice they make. It gave an interesting spin on things,
which was mostly what kept me reading. I was always wondering what
everyone would do, what choices they'd make and what their consequences
would be. In the end, no one gets everything they want, but it's not a
particularly sad or happy ending either. The love stories were also a
nice breathe of fresh air. While Seth might've been a little too
perfect, it was needed to keep Aislinn away from Keenan (the court
faerie who is pursuing Aislinn), and the pairings seem to go against
the grain. Marr seems to set it up to make it so that it would be more
convenient for certain characters to be together, but it doesn't end up
that way.

The characters were also all pretty great too. Aislinn
is not the typical heroine. While she's tough and can hold her own, she
isn't the annoying "I-can-kick-your-ass" character that seems to
sometimes be prevalent in urban fantasy. Yes, she can hold her own, but
Marr still kept her human and kept her vulnerable, which is where Seth
comes in. Like I mentioned before, while he seems a little too perfect,
he's still a likable character that you want to root for. As for some
of the faeries (more specifically Keenan and Donia), it was cool how
they sometimes seemed almost like an enemy, but we get to see their
side and realize they really aren't at all. They had just as much to
lose as Aislinn and Seth. The only character who I had a problem with
was the Winter Queen. She was a little too cookie-cutter for me as far
as bad guys go. The dynamics between the four main characters though
was great to read.

Overall, if you want some fantasy, but
nothing super genre heavy, Marr is the place to go. A great setting,
great story, great characters.. it's a fun read. I'm almost done Ink
Exchange (the companion novel), and I'm all ready excited for the
sequel, Fragile Eternity, coming out at the end of April! I give
Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely a 4/5 rating.
