Wicked Lovely is a modern day faerie tale following a teenage girl, Aislinn. Aislinn has been gifted/cursed with the Sight of being able to see through faery glamours, seeing them as they live. Faeries can hide themselves from normal people, but can also reveal themselvs. Secretly, Aislinn, as well as her Grams, can see them. That's how she notices when a court faery starts stalking her.

She finds safety with her best friend Seth, both because he lives in an old train that's made completely of iron (faeries' weakness) and because she just likes his company so much. When the faery starts following her, she confesses her Sight and everything to Seth, even at the risk of him thinking she's insane. Happy to help, Seth starts to help her prepare in case the court faery gets out of hand. He also wants the Sight so he can help.

Keenan is after Aislinn because he believes that she might be the Summer Queen. He's the Summer King, but most of his power was bound by the Winter Queen (aka: his mom). He's tested others who might be the Summer Queen, like Donia, but since none of them were, they succumbed to winter's chill and became painfully cold faeries. Donia is the current Winter Girl, and she wants Keenan to find the Queen for his own sake because she still loves him, even after what he caused her to become.

When Keenan finally intercepts Aislinn, all these characters become part of a confusing web of a story, where Aislinn has to cope with possibly losing her mortality, trying to stay with Seth, and just her safety.

Anone who likes the Twilight Saga, Need, or any other fantasy stories would love Wicked Lovely, so I reccomend it to them. Also, look out for the sequel, Ink Exchange.

Aislinn has lived by strict rules all her life, as did her grandmother
and mother... ignore the faeries, do not attract them and do not speak
to them. All of a sudden, after following them so well, they are
becoming harder to follow. Aislinn is Sighted and notices she is being
followed by two faeries. Just as things were going well with her beau
Seth, her world is ripped from her. She has three options once the
faerie Summer King, Keenan, has chosen her and none of them include
going back to her normal, mortal life.

Anyone who enjoys the battle between dark and good faeries, this was a
good read. Those who love Holly Blacks books as much as I do will also
enjoy Melissa Marr's books, it reminded me VERY much of Tithe and Ironside (especially
when comparing Keenan and Aislinn to Kaye and Roiben and their
struggles with the two courts). I really enjoyed this book, but
surprisingly it took my a couple chapters to get me going or interested.

Melissa Marrs Wicked Lovely is a perfect example of why the world of
Fey is hidden from our eyes. With a beautiful writing style, life-like
characters (even with their other-worldly birth or abilities), and
excellent plot, I did more than love this book -- I wished I was there.

This story starts off with a normal (well almost normal) girl, see she can see Faeries, and not the cute fairies such as Tinker Bell. This is the world of the folklore, elves, pixies, goblins, ect.  Aislinn grew up seeing faeries, her grandmother told her to never talk, look at or even acknowledge them. If the faeries find out you can see them they will harm you or worse kill you. For years shes been doin a good job keeping to herself, until one day she starts being stalked by one faerie in particular, Keenan. He's choosen her. What will Aislinn do to try and stay out of the world of faerie? What is it that Keenan wants with Aislinn?

This book is a must read if you love fantasy, faeries, and romance. You will not want to put this book down. Pick it up, read and enjoy.

I remember reading this when it first came out, it was everything I was looking for in a book, great plot, girl finding her own strength, and hot alternative guys. I fell in love with this dark world, the fairies and the power struggle. I recently reread this book and it still gets me, it's just so wonderfully written and the characters seem so real.

It's wonderful and entertaining. Though, it is slightly rushed in some areas. The ending would've been better if it had, well, more. The final showdown with The Winter Queen seemed far too easy, too quick. It should've been harder than that.

I still love Seth so much! That will never change. If he was a real person I'd run away with him. He's one of my ultimate favorite fictional guys.

Donia happened to be my favorite character this time around while before it was Aislinn. The later was a bit too whiney for me. If I got the chance to live forever and be a fairy queen I'd be happy, yes it would suck to have all your friends and family die but you'd get to be with all generations of your family.

Overall, I'd recommend it to anyone who loves fairies or urban fantasy. It's a quick read that you'll enjoy immensely.

I really enjoyed this book. I love that the Summer King is conflicted. I love that he can't really have what he wants. I love the relationship between Ash and Seth. Oh how I LOVE the relationship between Ash and Seth!

The plot and the writing are both wicked and lovely. I was intrigued and captivated from the very start. A gorgeous addition to dark fairy tales.

This fast paced, action packed series is focused on the world that is filled with a variety of faeries that are invisible to humans. These are not the nice, friendly faeries from tales but fearsome creatures they prey upon humans. The first book follows a young girl, Aislinn, who has the ability to see the faeries for what they are. She is chosen, against her efforts, by the Summer King to undergo a trial to become his long lost Summer Queen. Together they must face trials, challenges and the terrifying faerie world.

The entire series follows a variety of character some human, some faeries from the Summer Court, Dark Court, Winter Court and the High Court. The range of characters keeps the series fast paced and interest with very few slow moments.

Aislinn, a fierce and independent girl living in the outskirts of Philadelphia, can see faeries. This is not a good thing. If the faeries find out about her Sight, she and the people she love may be in danger. So Aislinn lives cautiously, fearfully, constantly seeking refuge at her best friend Seths living quarters, a large steel train car.

But Aislinns anonymity is about to be threatened. She has been singled out by Keenan, the Summer King of the faeries, as The One, the mortal girl who has the power to bring back the full power of summer and defeat the icy grip of the Winter Queen, Beira, Keenans mother.

Being the object of Keenans attention is not a good thing, however. Just ask Donia, the last chosen girl who decided to risk mortality for her love for Keenan. Instead, she failed the test and is trapped as the Winter Girl, plagued by cold and pain constantly, until the next girl comes along and agrees to take the test.

Beiras extra-careful attention to Aislinn seems to be a good indication of her fate, though. Aislinn wants nothing to do with the faeries. She would rather stay mortal and be with Seth, who means more than a friend to her, but she has no choice. She must use her brains and courage to accept her fate, while managing to make it as good as possible for herself.

WICKED LOVELY has its moments, but for a debut novel its not impressive enough. The concept of being unable to escape your fate is interesting, but I feel that not enough happened in the book. Nevertheless, I would still encourage any urban fantasy lovers to pick this up.

"keep your head down and your mouth shut," Aislinn's grandmother used to tell her. 'focus. control.' she thinks when one approaches her. 'don't run. they love the chase.' she tells herself when all she wants is to run, to reach Seth's house. the safe house. inside the safe steel walls of Seth's railroad car house she can hide. she can hide from the faeries that she sees, invisible to everyone but her and her grandmother. she has been taught to ignore their existence, but she can't quite ignore her faerie stalkers. and these are no ordinary fay, either. oh no, they are court fay. she is soon caught in a dilemma; she has caught the attention of Keenan, one of the fay that are stalking her. she finds out that he is the summer king and has to choose to risk the cold of winter and maybe be the one, or not risk it and become a summer girl. either way, she looses her mortality and she wants that more than anything because she can be with Seth. she also knows that all existence is depending on her.

this is the first book about faeries that i have read. i like it.
