White Frost has only ever known the darkness. Everything outside of her closed society is The Unknown – a strange and dangerous place accessible to only a chosen few. White’s only glimpse of the world beyond comes from her beloved cousin in the form of mysterious collections of words that hint at astonishing wonders. When an accident upends her simple existence, she’s given an unlikely chance to see the truth for herself. What she finds is greater and more terrible than she could have imagined, and before long she is forced to make the most important choice of her life: does she accept her safe, limited world that she’s known or take a desperate gamble in a world not meant for her with the Boy with Words?

I finished this book a few days ago and have given my brain time to think before writing the review. That’s not really a bad thing. It just means that this is a story that takes a lot of mental energy. It twists the mind every which way, making you want to be a little weirded out while at the same time rooting for these characters that were just written so well.

Frost has lived her whole life never seeing the outside world and she’s no different than most of the people in her colony. The world is dangerous, they’re taught. If they’re seen outside by what they call a creator, it could be disastrous. There are scriptures that tell them that very thing. Only a few select chosen get to venture out to bring supplies.

But Frost is curious. She has to know what’s out there. What she finds is shocking and unbelievable to her. The most surprising thing of all is that the “creators” aren’t the odd, different ones. She is. She doesn’t find some evil beings. She finds Kes. A perfectly normal human being who just happens to be much much much bigger than she is.

It’s the romance part that made me feel a little funny- but that’s no fault of the authors. Frost was 6 inches to Kes’s 6 feet. I found it hard to root for them to be together. But it was the easiest thing to root for them separately, because each is so strong in their own right. I loved watching Frost discover the world with such wonderment.

This story was a joy to read from beginning to end. It’s easy-to-read style pulls you in and holds tight as it takes you on a bit of a crazy ride.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review*

This book surprised me! I wasn't too sure what to think by the blurb, it sounded like a good read but then again it was so vague... but let me tell you now; this book is so good! It spends quite a bit of time setting the world up and then everything kicks in. The romance... I actually really enjoyed it.

This book gave me a few The Giver vibes but in the best way. The Giver is one of my favorite books from my childhood. So for this book to receive that kind of praise is not something one should take lightly.

I don't want to give any spoilers but I will say that Kaz is my favorite character and I'm sure if you read the book you will agree. It's a quick read, only a little over 200 pages and it reads even faster than that. You will not want to stop reading this book until it's over and then you'll want more. The reason I take off one star was a few little parts were confusing and I had to go back and reread them to figure them out. Otherwise it's a great, fun read!

I love the author's writing so much. It never lets me down, it flows so wonderfully and fits perfectly. The world building is always top notch and really makes me feel like I'm there. The characters are well flushed out and also feel real.

As for the plot, if you liked the first one then you will love this one too. It's well thought out and even kind of funny at times. I enjoyed it a lot and know I will revisit this very unique world. I mean how often do we see giants? It's really something that I've never read before and for that alone it is a must read! In a world where there is nothing that is original, this really stands out!
