Join Crab and Snail in the surf zone, where they think deep thoughts and have unforgettable seaside adventures, in this graphic early reader series debut by New York Times bestselling author Beth Ferry and beloved illustrator Jared Chapman.
The never-ending rain is putting a damper on Crab and Snail’s plans for a sunny, funny day. So when the BBFs (Best Beach Friends) realize that it’s only raining on them, they put their heads together and consult one know-it-all gull (he really does know it all!) to get to the bottom of it. By the time the rain clears, the duo will have made a new friend and learned something new and wonderful about friendship!

Crab and Snail are everyone’s next favorite characters in the graphic early reader space. Fans of Narwhal & Jelly; Pea, Bee, & Jay; and Arlo & Pips will love these quirky characters and clever stories.

‘Crab & Snail: The Invisible Whale’ by Beth Ferry, illustrated by Jared Chapman, is an adorable story in cartoon form about Crab, Snail, and a host of friends they meet while on the beach. It’s important to know, though, that Crab and Snail are BBF—Best Beach Friends. Their facial expressions in the images is truly indicative of their personalities, which makes the story all that much more fun to read.

When a seagull comes along who supposedly knows everything and introduces them to the fact that there is an invisible whale out in the water, Crab and Snail jump at the chance to get to know the whale. The absurdity doesn’t even matter, as the whale seems to be real, but probably doesn’t surface and just stays under the water, talking to the two from afar.

The cute jokes and the way the two friends act together is funny and sweet. The pictures are perfect for young readers (and older readers, too!). Crab and Snail are fast talkers who sometimes have a pair of barnacles join in the conversation from time to time. Their friendships and overall demeanors are engaging and thoroughly enjoyable to read. Another book about Crab and Snail is coming out in late 2022, and it should definitely be on any young person’s must-read list!
