There are many ways to die at the Circus of the Dead. You’re invited to witness them all. Mom sent me all the way across the country to the Louisiana bayou to join the circus and help my uncle for the summer. Except there is something not quite right on this swampy cursed island, and after having my fortune told, I can’t leave. I try to escape, but Benny, an all too charming ghost gangster tries to kill me by feeding me to a tiger. Thankfully I’m rescued by Samuel, the incredibly hot ringmaster who can’t be a day over twenty. Can he? In addition to avoiding the human scorpion, staying away from the big cats, and having trouble figuring out who’s dead and who’s alive, I have to find a way to escape this horror show. Will I get out of the circus alive or will I join their army of ghosts and become a murderer myself? Welcome to the Circus of the Dead.

The story:
When Callie's parents send her to help her uncle for the summer working at the Circus of the Dead and she soon realizes it’s not your typical circus.

What I loved:
The writing dragged me right into the story and I felt like I was with Callie at the Circus of the Dead. I also enjoyed the array of different characters who all had their own personality and each of them added to the story.

What was just okay:
There were times Callie would say one thing and do another which was a little frustrating but it wasn’t enough to stop me from reading this story.

Final Verdict:
If you love dark stories, ghosts and circus’s where you might not make it through the night, then this book is for you!
Good Points
The descriptions put me right in the story.
Great array of characters.

An intriguing and twisty book.

The story: Callie is just a girl who loves to surf. When her mom sends her to her uncle for the summer, her entire life changes. The uncle lives on an island surrounded by the most bizarre circus you can find where ghosts run the show, the gorgeous ringmaster holds a dark danger, and no one can leave— including her.

What I loved: I’ve never read a book like this and that adds to the intrigue. The circus of the dead is gross and creepy and so vividly painted I could almost see it.
The characters are something else entirely. With the exception of Callie, we don’t know who is good or who is bad. It’s fantastic twisty fun. This book is so outside my normal reads that I couldn’t even begin to guess what would happen next.

What was just okay:
Sometimes the pacing was slow, but only for short periods of time before it ramped up again.

Final Verdict:
A fun, unique, and well written story that’ll have you staying up late into the night to find out what happens next.
