Artemis Fowl II is a criminal mastermind. At the age of 11 he has already forged art master pieces, transferred money illegally from other people's bank accounts to his own, and done numerous other crimes. He is considered the child prodigy of all time. He has beaten the top chess masters in online matches and written books on psychology under different pseudonyms. He is also at the perfect age to believe in fairies. This is what makes him truly dangerous.
Holly Short, the first female LEP (lower elements police) recon (which is where the word leprechaun originated from) officer, is a sprite who is running low on magic. She must go to the world above ground to recharge her magic. Faeries live underground out of fear of humans. Despite the fact that faeries have magic and technology which is much superior than ours they can not win against humans. This is because humans reproduce way too often for faeries to compete. Faeries rarely reproduce and when they do it is almost always only one child. Because of this and the fact that human beings are too greedy the faeries were driven underground by humans where their existence is unknown to us.
Artemis Fowl discovers the faeries and...
This is my favorite book because the main character is very intriguing since he isnt really the good guy or the bad guy. Also the plot is very interesting and the story is very well written. I would recommend this book to all fiction and fantasy readers.

This book (and series) is GENIUS! For any faerie and magic lovers of any age, I recommend this book! It has a great storyline, and it keeps the reader from ever wanting to put the book down. I began reading this book in the 5th grade, and today I still love reading the series! 12-year-old Artemis Fowl, the faeries, elves, goblins, etc...the reader knows it's a non-fictional story, but author keeps the characters so realistic, you believe it's real! When Artemis manages to kidnap the elf-cop of the LEP unit, the action is just non-stop! Plain and simple (unlike this book)...READ IT! :)

Let's see, where to begin...well, I'll start with Artemis Jr., the mastermind himself. He has already managed to track down a fairy across the globe, invent a hide to help him capture said fairy, and hold it for ransom. The REALLY strange thing? He's only 12 years old.
No, seriously. A 12-year-old criminal mastermind. Who knew?! Actully, his motives behind this crime are far less sinister (although I don't think there are actually any laws protecting fairy people). He wants the fairy gold to fund his search for his father, who went missing a couple of years ago. I like that the author shows Artemis's softer side, shows he's not all bad. That really, inside that huge brain, there's really just a 12-year-old kid who misses his dad.
The fairies in this book are most likely waaaay different from the other fairy stories you've read. In Artemis Fowl, fairies (also known as elves, the fae, leprechauns -- but we'll get to that later) are basically just like super high-tech people -- except for the fact that they're 3 feet tall with pointy ears. They live underground in cities full of such fantasy creatures as centaurs, pixies, trolls, and swear toads (a prank lab experiment gone very, very wrong). What we think of as leprechauns are actually fairies in the old LEPrecon uniforms. LEPrecon is the reconnaisance division of the Lower Elements Police, or LEP. This story involves mainly Holly Short, a young female LEPrecon officer.
Holly is short for an elf. She's around one centimeter short of average, but that's a lot when you're only 3 feet high to begin with. She's the elf who gets captured by Artemis while replenishing her magic after an unfortunate incident involving a rogue troll and a restaurant in Italy. Needless to say, her commanding officer, Commander Root, is not very happy about this turn of events, and he and a team of fairies use every ounce of their wit against Artemis Fowl II to free Holly and keep their gold.
Find out who wins, fairy or human, in this stellar novel by Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl.

I would recommend this series to anyone. I think it is interesting enough to attract anyone who attempts to it. I am still not done reading the eternity code , but it just keeps getting better and better.

This book surprises everyone about Artemis Fowl. New readers to the artemis fowl series should be surprised at Artemis' intelligence. They might think he is in over his head but veteran readers of the series would know better. Artemis takes on highly sophisticated fairies at the age of 12.

The first book in the Artemis Fowl series. Readers will be surprised at his intelligence. Arty sets off on an inter-species money making including holding an armed fairy officer hostage. The fairies unfortunately don't like this and start to think of ways to outsmart him. This is a battle at Arty's doorstep, literally.

A few things to say about this book. Things like Wow! The way Artemis catches a fairy and things like that. Eoin Coffer actually works it so you think your really there. This book teaches that even the most prepared plans can go wrong. Artemis Fowl is a 12-year old child and he has a higher intellect than a fully-grown adult. He is portrayed to the Fairies as cold and ruthless, but in reality, is merely trying to fulfill his family's goal as though he were the head of the house. This book is an entertaining, non-stop adventure, from a time-field, to a tunneling dwarf, to a huge lumbering troll, to a radioactive bio-bomb. This book must be covered in glue because you wont be able to put it down! Every seconds was breath taking and the idea about a secret society is almost as entertaining as the idea we are all in The Matrix. You will love this book. As you continue to read this series you will uncover more and more information about the Fairy society. You will also like this book if you like the Alex Rider series or the Eragon series. I give this book 5 stars out of 5. Absolutely fantastic!

Artemis kind of reminds me of an bad Richie Rich. He's not evil, but he is definitly not the good guy, he's more of the super vilain type. When he goes up against the fairies (we're not thinking Tinkerbell) anything and everything can happen.
I like how different these books are. In an area where Harry Potter and Series of Unfortunate Events clones are popping out all over, I find these books a breath of fresh air. If you're looking for a book for a male reluctent reader, these are a good bet.

This was a truly original blend of fantasy and science-fiction I thought.I also found Artemis Fowl to be an extremely entertaining character. His clever schemes and the fact that he always had an ace up his sleeve made the book into a real page turner.Although Artemis was a great character, the other characters Holly Short and Mulch Diggums were wonderfully exceptional personalities. In all ,Artemis Fowl was an unforgettable story that anyone would enjoy reading.

This book is really good. It is about a rich genius kid who sets out to find fairies. He kidnaps one and holds her for ransom. But what he gets is troll trouble among other things. Very Good.
