The novel opens following the death of 14-year-old Alex Rider’s guardian and uncle Ian in a car accident. Alex becomes suspicious after learning his normally very careful uncle was not wearing a seatbelt and finds that his uncle’s office has been cleared out.

Alex finds his uncle’s car in a junkyard ridden with bullet holes and blood on the seats suggesting his uncle had been murdered. In the first of many action sequences Alex narrowly escapes after the car is loaded into the car crusher with Alex inside.

Later Alex is invited to his uncle’s bank where he learns that Ian Rider was a secret agent for MI6.

Ian Rider’s last case was investigating multi-millionaire businessman Herod Sayles, who had recently announced that he was donating thousands of his new computer line Stormbreaker to London school children.

MI6 would like Alex to pose as a Felix Lester, a school boy who won a contest to test the Stormbreaker computer. Alex initially refuses. MI6 head Alan Blunt who controls Alex’s inheritance blackmails him with threats of selling his uncle’s home, placing him in an orphanage and having his live in housekeeper Jack Starbright deported.

Alex is unaware that his uncle has been preparing him for the secret service with karate and outdoor pursuits such as rock climbing and river rafting.

Alex completes an extensive training program with SAS soldiers before being sent to Sayle Enterprises armed with a series of teen-friendly gadgets including acne cream that burns through metal and a Gameboy equipped with spy gear such as a bug detector, transmitter and smoke screen.

The book is an easy read. There is plenty of action making this a popular choice for young male readers.

Stormbreaker was adapted into a film in 2006 starring Alex Pettyfer. Horowitz, an experienced scriptwriter also penned the film’s script.

I would recommend the Alex Rider series to readers who enjoy action and adventure stories. Suitable for ages 11+

Alex's adventures remind me of the Hardy Boys and how I felt when I read them for the first time as a teenager. Sure, it's not great literature, but it's fun, easy and captivating. I will definitely read the rest of them.

It was also the first book I finished on iPhone's Kindle and I must say, it is a great way to read this type of book.

A mysterious thriller that takes place in top secret investigation.

There was this kid named Alex Rider he lived with his uncle and a maid. His uncle died in a car accident. Alex gets a little suspicious when he sees bullet holes in his uncles car.

Alex goes on an adventure to investigate his uncles death. He ends up in his office but the door was locked. Alex goes into the next office and sees that the only way over there is to swing from a flag pole and jump into his office. That is one crazy dude! When he got into the office Alex was rifling through all of his uncles files. Alex puled one file out and it said Top Secret on the cover. Alex quickly opened it up and it said that his uncle was a top secret agent for MI6. Alex was shocked.

He called the agency and they let alex be a secret spy. he had to finish the mission that the uncle started it was to destroy this computer. Will he destroy it or will he get killed find out in the book StormBreaker.

The book was really detailed and had a lot of cliff hangers it was a well thought out book. The way all the scenes went together. I would recommend the book to young adults that love action and thriller books plus a lot of suspense.HX

Okay, so, Alex is a normal fourteen year old. He goes to school, and does completely normal stuff. At least, until his Uncle Ian is reported dead, from a car accident. They say he wasn't wearing his seatbelt, which just doesn't make sense because Ian was always CRAZY about seatbelts. So Alex Rider goes to investigate, and discovers the police were lying. Bullet holes spray the side of the car. After nearly getting crushed, he meets MI6, and discovers that his Uncle wasn't actually a banker, in fact, he was a spy.

I didn't really like how the MI6 blackmailed him into joining them, but I guess if they hadn't, Alex wouldn't have got to do all the fun stuff that happens later in the book. I mean, why would he pass up the chance of being a spy? I definitely wouldn't, but I suppose there's all the killing to consider...

So anyway, after joining the MI6, after 11 days of grueling training, he is sent on a mission (I know right, send a fourteen year old on something that adults usually spend years training for) to investigate on a project called Stormbreaker. It's basically where this guy called Herod Sayle is about to release hundreds of awesome computers to schools all around England, for FREE. Sounds too good to be true, right? Alex discovers that it is, and gets all tangled up in an evil plot where he nearly gets run over by a quad bike, has his tongue cut out by a terrifyingly hideous man, killed by a jellyfish, falls off a cliff, gets shot, gets killed by viruses, and mashed up by an airplane (the key word here is NEARLY)

I think Alex could have been a bit more developed. Sure, you got to know that he was athletic, good at snooker and karate, parentless, and claustrophobic. But still. I would have liked it if Anthony Horowitz just made him a little more 3D.

Neverthless, this is an awesome book about thrilling mystery, action, fighting, spies and the rest of it. Definitely something that you should try. I definitely recommend it, but maybe don't read it if you are put off by the whole shooting/killing/horrible guys who have disgusting scars.

I loved Stormbreaker. The beginning was a bit... strange, but beginnings are usually strange for me. This book was thrilling, and I loved venturing with Alex Rider. I didn't like how MI6 sort of "black-mailed" him to do what they wanted, but I have to admit, if they didn't, there would've been no fun for Alex.
This book begins with Alex receiving the news that his uncle, Ian Rider, died; but there was more. His uncle was working for them, as a spy, for a supposed computer for school children. After "black-mailing" Alex, he discovers, almost getting himself killed, that the stormbreakers (the computers) were not what everyone thought. And only he knew, until the end.
What could it possibly be? Join Alex Rider in this ride of a life time as a spy/secret agent for MI6! This book was absolutely wonderful!

Stormbreaker by Alex Rider
3 out of 5 stars

Stormbreaker Book One of the Alex Rider Series by Anthony Horowitz was dominated by action-packed fighting scenes.

Fourteen year old Alex Rider has just lost his Uncle Ian to a supposed car accident. Though the police believes its so, Alex disagrees. How could his Uncle who constantly hassled him about seatbelts, not have been wearing one himself? As Alex searches for the truth, he finds out it was no accident, but murder. After his natural curiosity gets the better of him, he can never go back.

You never really got to know Alex. Yes of course you knew he was smart, physically fit, parentless, and great at snooker. But how much can you really know about a character if you didn't know his thoughts? How are suppose to know him if he barely talked? What if he didn't show emotion, how are you suppose to know him?

Stormbreaker was mainly a book full of action and descriptions of the fighting. The book would have benefited greatly if Alex Rider had developed more of a sense of a real human being. Someone with thought, words, and emotions people can connect with. Not just a book character who can do a lot of stunts and is a good spy.

It was a great book that could have been greater.

I watched the movie for Alex Rider: Stormbreaker first and loved it. I loved the movie so much that the next day I went and got the book.

Althought the book may be written a bit childesh for teenagers, it still takes the reader on an exciting adventure where they can't wait to see what happens next.
