At this point in the series I know that things can never really end well. Yet, I always hold out a tiny bit of hope that this or that character may live and this or that mystery will be solved. And once again I'm left not exactly disappointed, but sad that Snicket wasn't lying all this time about the Baudelaire's terrible misfortune and they still can't catch a break.
Will someone please, PLEASE, just tell me what's in that damned sugar bowl? Seriously, I'm dying over here.
I'd completely forgotten about the big revelation pertaining to the hotel so it actually caught me by surprise, which I liked. Though, it's possible I was just being especially unobservant the day I listened/read it. (Sadly, my hopes of exploring said revelation were dashed after finishing the third book.)
One of the better books of the series, I'd say. I enjoyed having the lot of past characters all shoved into the hotel and sprinkled throughout the story.

I thought this was another great book in the series. New characters introduced, more mysteries and it makes you want to read on and on. I can't wait untill I get my hands on the last book so I can see if any of the Baudelaires misfortune will ever leave and if they ever solve all the mysteries. I've had a good time reading the series and it is sad that this is the next to last book in the series, I wish it would never end.

The Baudelaire children emerge from the sea and run into Kit Snicket.  She takes them to a hotel where they are to work undercover and get information on Olaf's next scheme to get his hands on them and the Baudelaire fortune.  Olaf has the hotel hold a trial against the orphans and then light the place on fire.

SPOILER ALERT BELOW

Everyone manages to escaps including the orphans who were in Olaf's grasp as they were fleeing the hotel.

This was the second to last book in the Series of Unfortunate Events and I exspected more from this book but, I need not recieve it. I did like the fact that we got to see the story though the eyes of all the children and we also got to see almost everyone from the whole series but, in my opinion the book is not as good as other stories in the series. I somewhat recommend this book because if you have made it though the other 11 books than you should at least finish the series.

This book was a wonderful follow up to the rest of the series. It seems that Lemony Snicket can captivate the minds of those who read his book. I think this is not only because of the way he keeps his identity a secret but that of writing to keep a young person interested.
I really enjoyed this book because it was easy to read. The events did not move to quickly or slowly. This would give many young adults the quick little boost of reading for them everyday. It is a very easy book to follow. Thanks Lemony Snicket!!!

The Penultimate Peril,a book for many types of readers!

It's a great book and great series because, Lemony Snicket isn't like other authors who write about all happy times he writes about the sad times; therefore you that you're not reading a book that is like every other book it's a new type.

This book was wonderful. It kept me on my toes the entire time. Violet, Klaus, and Sunny are they're own charecters in this book as well as one charecter. They each hae their own personality while still being somewhat the same.

Lemony Snickey has become a great developed author since publishing The Series of Unfortunate Events!

I would defenately recomend this book to anyone who has read the previous books!

Two thumbs up!

I love the Lemony Snicket books and the 12th is no different. What I really enjoyed about this one is the reappearance of all the characters that had not been killed off. It's interesting to see what some of the remaining characters have been up to, whether they were on the orphan's side or not. It's easy to overlook some of the drawn out plot details and start preparing for The End.

In the twelth book, i found myself sitting and reading for hours on end. It was pretty good and Mr. Snicket tryed a diffrent writing technique in this book. He wrote in three diffrent perspectives. He showcases all three of the orphans and how they feel in the hotel. Look for book 13 october 13. CW
