THICK AS THIEVES is the fifth book in Megan’s The Queen’s Thief series. Although this is standalone and can be read even if you haven’t read the other ones. But after reading Thick as Thieves (which is my first Turner book) I highly suggest you go out and pick up the first four, because oh man was this book so much fun to read. It follows Kamet as he has to leave the life he’s known behind and trust in a complete stranger to keep him safe. I don’t want to spoil anyone so I won’t go into to much detail.

Thick as Thieves is a book that I heard such good things about that I immediately wanted to pick it up. This is the first book I’ve read by Megan, and I can honestly say that I am so happy that I did. This book follows Kamet as he goes on the run (for reasons) and tries to escape to Attolia. Kamet has been a slave his whole life, and now he has the chance and opportunity to become a freeman. The amount of world-building, twists and turns, and character development, it’s no wonder that people rave about this series. I was thrust into this world that I knew nothing about and I instantly fell in love, with the characters, the world, and Kamet. Also the relationship between Kamet and his travel companion. They both had their faults and they both brought things that the other lacked, but I loved their interactions. I loved seeing them open up and confide in each other. I loved that Kamet cared about his companion.

This world and characters are intricate but not at all hard to follow. The writing flows well and it’s easy to keep track of who’s who and what’s what. I love that about this book. I wasn’t struggling to remember who a certain character was or where I first saw them in this book. Megan built this world that has many parts to it, but never once did I find myself confused. Everything just fits so nicely together and makes it so it’s easy to follow each turn that Megan throws at you.

I mean there’s not much to say other than I loved this book. I thought it was fantastic and fun to read. The world was amazing and brilliant. The characters were ones that I enjoyed following immensely. The only thing I hope for is that the next book comes out sooner and doesn’t take years to come out. But let’s be honest I would wait forever for the next book, I am officially hooked. Also at least I have the other four books to fall back on too! I do want to say that even though this is marketed as a standalone, I do think that with how Megan ties certain things back and forth, the other four books will have things that tie into this one. You definitely won’t miss anything if you read this one first, but I suggest you pick up the other ones as well.
