A long, hot summer... That's what Macy has to look forward to while her boyfriend, Jason, is away at Brain Camp. Days will be spent at a boring job in the library, evenings will be filled with vocabulary drills for the SATs, and spare time will be passed with her mother, the two of them sharing a silent grief at the traumatic loss of Macy's father. But sometimes, unexpected things can happen—things such as the catering job at Wish, with its fun-loving, chaotic crew. Or her sister's project of renovating the neglected beach house, awakening long-buried memories. Things such as meeting Wes, a boy with a past, a taste for Truth-telling, and an amazing artistic talent, the kind of boy who could turn any girl's world upside down. As Macy ventures out of her shell, she begins to wonder, Is it really better to be safe than sorry?

This is it.

This is one of the books that got me into reading in my late teens.

I really couldn't have asked for a better starting point.

It started my love for Sarah Dessen. Major author crush.

It's why, 7 years later, I have a copy of all of her books. And why my love for contemporary romance never dies. (it's also why I have 2 overflowing bookshelves and one leaning tower of books on my night stand).

It's why I stay up late at night, caught in the pages of a story.

It's why, during college, I was more than likely reading than out drinking. (except those few times that my friends lured me out with the promise of iHop and dancing).

The Truth About Forever is a story of love, loss, family and finding out who you are in between all of that. And I owe a good part of my growing up and moving on to this book.

I can trace my love of YA back to this book. For whatever reason, this is the first YA story I picked up to read. I loved Macy and I could relate to her dread of an awful summer. I loved the pancake house (right? It's been awhile) and the new crush Wes. Who knew that all these years later I'd be able to relate to her loss as well.

A great read and a good introduction to YA Contemporary
