Book title and author: THE PIGMAN Paul Zindel

Title of review: THE PIGMAN

Number of stars (1 to 5): 4

This book is about a boy and a girl named John and Lorraine are two kids who just one day was trying to have a little fun. They were just fooling around when the were doing a prank phone call and Mr.PIgnati picked up.  They kids felt a little sorry for the old man.

While they were talking to the poor old man they said they were a fund.  They we supposedly the J&L fund. They asked the old man for a donation of 10$.The kids went over to the old man house and he filled out the check but there was something unusually about the man.  He asked them to walk with him to the zoo the next day they said yes.

Over time the kept coming over too the old man house they developed a friendship with him. They were very nice too the old man he was nice too the them.  John is a troubled boy he likes to smoke and drink. Lorraine on the other hand is very nice but Is a little crazy I think.

In the story Mr.Pignati is very nice he tells a lot of stories and important things. One day they throw party in his house and something very bad happens. In the book he tells that his wife has went to California to see her sister. This is a very important part in the book that you will have to pay attention to.

The Pigman is probably the first young adult book I ever read. It was my mom's and she gave it to me. I loved it. It's awesomeness is hard to put into words. I've read it several times and it's sequel. There's also a third that is the story of the author's experience that he based The Pigman on. Young adult literature may be at its peak right now, but it is definitely worth it to go back and read some of these older, classic (if you will) books that were young adult before young adult was really a big genre in publishing.

I had to read this book for a school reading project... At first I thought 'Darn it, why do I have to read this one?? Can't I read something that looks cooler?'... But after reading the first few chapters, I started to get hooked into the story. Lorraine and John are just average kids, with everyday problems. Both of them hate their parents, neither of them have a great life, but they both have each other... and the Pigman.

Things changed after the prank phone call on Mr. Pignati, and old beerbellied man who lived by himself. Things started out ok, but further along in the story, more and more things happened. Some of the things weren't neccessarily bad, but a lot of them were.

I don't want to tell too much about the story and ruin it for others out there who have yet to read it... So I guess I'll end this review here... I hope those of you who haven't read it yet, enjoy it as much as I did...
