She is taken into a place for Jews to live while they get sorted out for concentration camps. When the Nazis finally come to get her, Rachel's dad give her instructions: don't speak. They take away her family and she is left all alone. Found and cared for, Rachel lives the next few years in hiding from the Nazis.
