Hi, YABCers!

Today we’re super excited to celebrate the new cover reveal for AFTERMATH by Clara Kensie, releasing November 15, 2016 from Merit Press. Before we get to the cover, here’s a note from Clara:

Hello, YABCers! I’m thrilled to show you the cover of AFTERMATH, my dark, ripped-from-the-headlines contemporary novel about a girl who returns home four years after being kidnapped. AFTERMATH deals with some pretty tough topics, but woven throughout are themes of hope and healing, as well as triumph over tragedy. I wondered if cover artist Alexandra Artiano would be able to capture both the darkness and the light. When I saw the cover for the first time, I literally gasped, and then I cried. Alexandra did it, and she did it beautifully. The innocence of the ribbon floating in the sky—or maybe it’s falling from the sky—juxtaposed with the ominous title, is haunting and hopeful at the same time. It’s so simple, and that’s what makes it so powerful and so perfect.

xoxo,
~Clara Kensie (AFTERMATH, Merit Press)

About the Book

At last she’s free. Or is she?

Charlotte dreamed of her family every day of her captivity in the attic of a kidnapper: in fact, thinking of them, happy and whole, was her only comfort. When she escapes, it’s to a stunning loss: that family has fallen apart. Mom and Dad are divorced, and her sister is a drugged-out delinquent, and while Mom treats Charlotte like a rare orchid, her father wants her to get out there and do a lecture tour. Worst of all, Charlotte can’t prove what she knows is true—that there was another victim. And that girl never got a second chance to live.

About the Author

Clara Kensie grew up near Chicago, reading every book she could find and using her diary to write stories about a girl with psychic powers who solved mysteries. She purposely did not hide her diary, hoping someone would read it and assume she was writing about herself. Since then, she’s swapped her diary for a computer and admits her characters are fictional, but otherwise she hasn’t changed one bit.

Today Clara is a RITA© Award-winning author of dark fiction for young adults. Her RUN TO YOU series is a super-romantic psychic thriller about a family on the run from a deadly past, and a first love that will transcend secrets, lies, and danger. The RUN TO YOU series was named an RT Magazine Editors Pick for Best Books of 2014, and Book One, DECEPTION SO DEADLY, is the winner of the prestigious 2015 RITA© Award for Best First Book. Her next book is AFTERMATH, a dark, ripped-from-the-headlines contemporary thriller in the tradition of ROOM and THE LOVELY BONES, releasing November 15, 2016 from Merit Press.

Clara’s favorite foods are guacamole and cookie dough. But not together. That would be gross.

Awesome cover!!! Can’t wait until the book comes out!!!

  2. Anonymous says:

The cover looks great and the plot sounds good about a girl trying to get over being kidnapped.

  3. Anonymous says:

Aftermath sounds like a good read. And I think the cover is great! Thank you

The cover is very pretty but it doesn’t give the reader much clue as to what type of book this will be. I am glad this book is about what happens after the attic instead of focusing the whole book on her kidnapping (like how Room spends a lot of the book looking at how the boy and his mother reintegrate into the world with difficulty.) I think this will be a good story because of that.

The cover is very pretty and simple but holy crow this sounds like a tough book to read! I’m guessing tissues will be needed!

  6. Anonymous says:

The cover is very simplistic and probably wouldn’t catch my eye at the bookstore. However, the synopsis really got my attention!

  7. Anonymous says:

The cover’s a little simple for my taste (I judge by the cover 99% of the time) buuuut the synopsis did its job.

  8. Anonymous says:

I think this cover is really deceiving because it looks so pure and innocent while the story deals with much darker topics

  9. Anonymous says:

The title caught my attention because I was like “AFTERMATH!! The aftermath of what though? What happened or is there a deeper meaning?” Beautiful cover!

  10. Anonymous says:

I love the synopsis, but not the cover. I would probably check this book out because of the title (I’m a math geek), but not the cover.
