Crank. Glass. Ice. Crystal. Whatever you call it, it's all the same: a monster. And once it's got hold of you, this monster will never let you go. Kristina thinks she can control it. Now with a baby to care for, she's determined to be the one deciding when and how much, the one calling the shots. But the monster is too strong, and before she knows it, Kristina is back in its grips. She needs the monster to keep going, to face the pressures of day-to-day life. She needs it to feel alive.

Once again the monster takes over Kristina's life and she will do anything for it, including giving up the one person who gives her the unconditional love she craves -- her baby.

The sequel to Crank, this is the continuing story of Kristina and her descent back to hell. Told in verse, it's a harrowing and disturbing look at addiction and the damage that it inflicts.

Glass by Ellen Hopkins, is an absolutely horrifying portrayal of the life of a methamphetamine addict. Horrifying because it seems so real. Glass is the sequel to Crank, and offers the continuing story of Kristina Snows life as an 18-year old teen mother succumbing to her drug addiction. The entire book is written in free-verse, in an almost poetic format, allowing readers to better follow Kristinas thoughts. At six hundred pages in length, it might seem like a tedious read, but in reality,

Kristina now has a baby of her own to care for, but she can hardly even care for herself. While she managed to stay clean for a couple of months, she unexpectedly finds herself once more in the grips of the monster, otherwise known as methamphetamine. Only, was it really so unexpected? Or did she always know that she would fall back into this trap? More quickly than even she realizes, Kristinas life centers around her next score and the temporary relief it gives her from all of her problems. Not only does she crave meth, and want her next high, but her body physically needs the drug.

Her baby, who was once the most important person in her life, now falls to the wayside. Its not that she doesnt love her own child, but how can she care for Hunter properly when she cannot even think straight? Kristinas own mother kicks her out of the house, and that is only the beginning of her problems. She falls in love with another meth user, Trey, but what kind of love can they have? Can their love survive amidst their love of cystal meth? Kristina doesnt even know if her addiction is worth fighting anymore. No matter how hard she tries, she keeps coming back for more. Its killing her slowly, and at some point she doesnt even care anymore.

Hopkins writes with the intent to show readers the nasty truth about how damaging a substance abuse problem can be, both to the user and to the users family and friends. The authors eldest daughter had an addiction to crystal meth, and I can only imagine how hard it is to share such a personal part of ones life to share with the public. Hopkins does so in the hopes that more people will grow to understand and learn about the dangers of addiction. I learned far more about substance abuse and addiction from reading Glass than I did in a whole semester of Health Education. The closest anyone can come to understanding addiction without having been addicted themselves is by reading Ellen Hopkins remarkable books.

Very very intense as always! Loved it =)
Good Points
Wow everyone loves Ellen Hopkins books because they’re in verse. Which means quick and easy, but do you want to know why I love them? Because there always extremely intense and those are my favorite books to read. So intense that you have to keep turning pages, like if you stop you’ll miss the story too much that’s what these books are too me! I bought this book on my own and am choosing to review it on my own also. In this book we catch up with our main character Kristina, who has recently had a baby and is clean. But not for long.. She can feel the monster calling to her she wants to get high again.

Through out the book I went back and forth between feeling sorry for Kristina and thinking that she’s a complete and utter idiot. In the end though I knew what my feelings were and they will stay that way until I read the third and final book! As we all know Kristina is a teen mother addicted to meth. The reasons I felt sorry for her is because she needed help and she just couldn’t get it. Yes her mother offered to help her but she didn’t do a good enough job of offering it. She told her if you need help I’ll give it to you but then she kicked her out. I mean I get it she shouldn’t need more then that but she’s a young mother addicted to drugs she needed more then that.

On the other hand I know she was so stupid. I mean she was clean she should have kept her job at seven eleven and stayed clean so she could be a mom to her baby and finish high school. But did she do that? Nope she went ahead and got back on drugs. For awhile she at least got to stay at home but her mom saw how bad she was getting and finally kicked her out. Now that should have gotten to her too but instead she went and stayed with her drug dealer who was also her boyfriends cousin and basically sort of whored around!

Anyways I hope that in this third book Kristina cleans herself up and takes care of her BABY! Oh I so wish I could spoil the ending of this book but I can’t so if anyone’s read this book come talk to me! I enjoyed some of the other characters like Kristina’s alter ego Bree. My favorite part was when she was mouthing off to her sisters girlfriend oh man it was hilarious. Also I really liked Trey because although he was a drug addict as well as her he was still in school for the majority of time and he truly loved Kristina and I loved that. In the beginning I thought he was going to be another Brendan if you know what I mean but he wasn’t and I’m so glad.

In the end I give it a 5 out of 5 stars because again I love how intense Ellen keeps her books. I could not stop turning these pages until I physically couldn’t anymore!

I found that reading this book made me realize that their are more people out there who understand the things us teens go through. It has made me realize that we are not alone during these tough times, and we shouldn't take the people who care about us for granted! They are all here to help us and we need to realize that. We are not alone, and we should talk to people because they can give us a whole new beggining, and meaning to our life. I'm thanking Ellen Hopkins for writting such mooving and touching poems for this book! She's a fantastic writer!

Hello, My Friend

I destroy homes.  I tear families apart.
I take children and thats just a start.
Im more valued than diamonds, more precious than gold.
The sorrow I bring is a sight to behold.
If you need me, remember, Im easily found.
I live all around you, in school and in town.
I live with the rich, I live with the poor.
I live just down the street, and maybe next door.
Im made in a lab, but not one like you think.
I can be made under the kitchen sink, or in your
Childs closet, even out in the woods.
If this scares you to death, it certainly should.
I have many names, but theres one youll know best.
Im sure youve heard of me.  My names Crystal Meth.
My power is awesome.  Try me.  Youll see.
But if you do, you may never break free.
Just try me once, I might let you go.
Try me twice and Ill own your soul.
When I possess you, youll steal and youll lie.
Youll do what you have to, just to get high.
The crimes youll commit for my narcotic charms
Will be worth the pleasure youll feel in my arms.
Youll lie to your mother, youll steal from your dad.
When you see their tear, you must not feel sad.
Just forget your morals, and how you were raised.
Ill be your conscience.  Ill teach you my ways.
I take kids from parents.  I take parents from kids.
I turn people from God.  I separate friends.
Ill take everything from you, even your good looks and
Pride.  Ill be with you always, right by your side.
Youll give up everything.  Your family, your home.
Your money, your friends, youll be all alone.
Ill take and Ill take till youve no more to give.
When I finish with you, youll be lucky to live.
If you try me, be warned.  THIS IS NOT A GAME.
If Im given the chance, Ill drive you insane.
Ill ravage your body.  Ill control your mind.
Ill own you completely.  Your soul will be MINE.
The nightmares Ill five you when youre lying in bed,
And the voices you hear from inside your head.
The shakes, the sweats, and the visions youll see.
I want you to know, these are your gifts from me.
By then its too late, and youll know in your heart,
That you are now mine, and we shall not part.
Youll regret that you tried me.  They always do.
But you came to me.  Not I to you.
You knew this would happen.  How many times were you told?
But you challenged my power.  You chose to be bold.
You could have said no and just walked away.
If you could live over, now what would you say?
My power is awesome, as I told you before.
I can take your mother and turn her into a whore.
Ill be your master, youll do as I say,
Even when I tell you to go to your grave.
Now that youve met me, what will you do?
Will you try me or not?  Its all up to you.
I can show you more misery than words can tell.
Come, take my hand.  Let me lead you to
hell.

"This Poem HIts you hard i think it is so sad
and everytime i read it i think of this book and me and my family and how much i changed from my trips with the monster,THANK GOD i am clean now=]]"

Kristina is back, and right when she thinks her life is coming together, the monster comes a' calling, bringing Bree back into its clutches once more.

A fantastic sequel to Crank! You once again see the hold meth can have on a person, and the bad things that come from it. Ellen Hopkins writes astonishing books, and I think they're a must read for anyone.

Glass is the sequel to the book Crank. It is the disturbing story of Kristina Snow, a high school student, who gets involved in the dangerous world of meth. Her story is scary and makes the reader feel like yelling at the characters in the book. Her behavior is so self-destructive, yet she can not grasp the danger at hand. In Crank is introduced to meth and finds ways in which to fulfill her addiction. By the end of the book she is totally addicted and gives birth to a baby boy. In Glass she can not cope with her addiction, pressures to finish school and get her GED, and caring for an infant. She abandons everything that is important to her for drugs. Glass takes you on a ride like you were never on before into the dangerous world of meth use. Well done, yet leaves you wanting more.

The book is amazing you have to read it. The choices she makes are bad but she cannot grasp that. Will she get him back or will she forever lose him to a better place. The adiction she has is greater than she knows, but she cannot because the monster will not let her go. It wants to dance forever. Read it and think twice about just taking a stroll with the monster.

In the second novel in verse from Ellen Hopkins detailing Kristina's addiction to crystal meth, the story continues with deeper consequences and darker events. It quickly shows how bad the spiral of addiction happens, and just how hard that anyone can get sucked into it. Kristina was the normal girl, the perfect child, the role model, but one test of drugs ruined that, and her life has only gotten worse since.

A novel for all teens to read, "Glass" is something that will keep teenagers aware of the effects that drugs can have upon the body as they watch the bad choices that Kristina makes while under the influence of drugs. This novel truly shows that no one is immune to the drugs pull.

This book was a geart continuing to CRANK. After reading crank i had to pick up glass and read it as well just to know what else happened. I was proud of her for not finding the monster while beiing preganate with Hunter. But after she found it again, i knew everything was going to go down hill from there. But i am a sucker for the love scenes which were great and just kept you wanting to read it more and more. I would have to say that the ending was a bit of suprise i thought that her and her boyfriend were going to actually try and turn themselfs around and do better for thire baby on the way. But in the long run that is what she gets for stealing form her own family.

In this sequel to Crank, Kristina is being a mom to Hunter and is clean.  Then she decides she's bored with her life and gets into drugs again.  Things go from bad to worse, but this story is just Crank revisited - maybe a little stronger, definately a lot more dysfunctional.  Kristina thinks she can control the drug use.  She can't.  She progressively becomes totally addicted and neglects her family and her son.  I was not able to like Kristina in this book.  She becomes involved in a romantic relationship with a player, starts dealing - then heavy duty dealing, shows no responsibility, no remorse, and no real soul in this book.  Her mother has no patience for her after the first quarter of the book and rightfully so, I had the same feeling.  I ended up caring more about the secondary characters, like Hunter, Brad, Kristina's mom and sister.  The ending of the book is pretty expected, and even then Kristina is not realistic.  It will no doubt resonate more with teens.
