Harriet Manners knows a lot of things. She knows that a cat has 32 muscles in each ear, a "jiffy" lasts 1/100th of a second, and the average person laughs 15 times per day. What she isn't quite so sure about is why nobody at school seems to like her very much. So when she's spotted by a top model agent, Harriet grabs the chance to reinvent herself. Even if it means stealing her best friend's dream, incurring the wrath of her arch enemy, Alexa, and repeatedly humiliating herself in front of the impossibly handsome supermodel, Nick. Even if it means lying to the people she loves.

As Harriet veers from one couture disaster to the next with the help of her overly enthusiastic father and her uber-geeky stalker, Toby, she begins to realise that the world of fashion doesn't seem to like her any more than the real world did.

And as her old life starts to fall apart, the question is: will Harriet be able to transform herself before she ruins everything?

Harriet is socially inept and a klutz to boot, so when her best friend Nat (who has always wanted to be a model) makes her go to a clothing show on a school trip, she is hesitant, especially when it involves a five hour bus ride with fellow geek/stalker Toby. When Toby manages to throw up on both girls, they are kitted out in soccer (football- this is a British book) uniforms and set loose on the fashion show. Harriet manages to knock over several booths and end up under a table with a very good looking boy, Nick, who works for a modeling agency. Wilbur is the scout for that agency and is taken with Harriet, wanting her to come and interview with a famous designer to be the face of her new line. Harriet's step mother is against this, but her father, a rather irresponsible guy who works in advertising, is so excited about the opportunities that he lies to his wife about taking Harriet to Moscow, and she goes off on a modeling job with Nick. There are problems at school concerning her geekiness and a mean girl there, but Nat forgives Harriet her modeling career and stands up for her.

This is a series of four books. I don't know how I missed them when they first came out.

This is an amusing geek-to-chic story that is fast paced and clean enough for middle school girls. The Louise Rennison books seem to have run their course, and there's always a subgroup who likes British books. The parents in this are quite fun, too.

I’ve been hearing a lot of great reviews about this book that’s why I decided to request an e-ARC of the US Edition of the book over at Edelweiss.

I’ve always been a fan of nerdy, geeky and dorky type of characters. I’ve been drawn to them because I, personally, am a geek. I really enjoyed reading this book! Upon finishing the first chapter, I immediately marked this book as my one of my favorites!

This book is about a geeky girl named Harriet Manners, who’s being constantly bullied at school, until one day, she got an opportunity to become a model. Except that was supposed to be her best friend, Nat’s opportunity.

Harriet Manners is my soulmate. I could definitely relate to her in every single way. It’s not hard to like her character. It’s very much adorkable! I love how she sometimes blabbers some things that are trivial and like, no person would throw in a casual conversation.

I also liked Harriet’s dad. He’s really funny and carefree. I liked his relationship with Harriet because it reminded me so much of my relationship with my Dad. Annabel’s character, on the other hand, I didn’t like that much until I’ve reached a few chapters towards the end of the book. I just found her character to be very much controlling, but hey, she’s just doing her best as a Mom so I learned to cut her some slack throughout the book. Nat, Harriet’s best friend, was an interesting character. Although, I wish I’d seen more of her. Toby was interesting too, but a bit creepy, I’d say but like, in a really funny way. He’s a self-confessed Harriet-stalker. It’s really funny. I love the way Nick’s character was presented in the story. Yes, he’s the love interest, but it wasn’t rubbed in the story in such way that will make you lose interest in him and like roll your eyes and just feel so meh. It’s very interesting how little of him was described in the story which made his character a bit mysterious. I just love how his chemistry with Harriet wasn’t forced at all. It’s very natural and yes, super adorable!!

I have to say that Alexa’s character was very much well-written because I wanted so much to be the one who cut her hair. I swear to god that girl. Hahaha! Well, that just shows how Holly Smale writes effectively.

The book was definitely a page-turner. It’s light, funny and enjoyable! Although, there were some scenes where I did feel really sad but hey, still a happy ending!

I absolutely loved this book so much that I want to jump in immediately into reading the next one!
