I tried to read this yesterday. I've tried to read it before. The characters just don't jump out at me like I'd like them to and I gave up after 10 or so pages.

Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte is a classic book that envelopes the brutal and shocking reality of love, mortality, and marriage into its pages. The book was written in 1847, so the language it is written in is challenging and considerably different than how authors today would write. This may "turn-off" some readers because they may not like the way things are described or the way the characters interact. The book is read in first person, and often switches speakers often. This does make it confusing and can get hard to understand. Wuthering Heights does have many dull moments but we all admired the painful truth behind the story.

Emily Bronte lived a dull and boring life before she passed away at a very young age. Wuthering Heights was published in 1847 and she passed away a year later. The book does not have much action and can turn people away with its language. Bronte writes the book from the housekeeper perspective rather than any of the main characters. Nelly tells the story of the lives of many characters and how they chose their greed over their true love.

My book club would recommend this book to people who enjoy classic love stories rather than action filled. We gave it a 3 because within all of the hard language was a love story that should've been told from the view of someone who experienced the heartbreak rather than the ones who watched it. This book was definitely mean't for an older crowd rather than a young teen!

Wuthering Heights a classic that many might have heard of but not everyone has read. And if you are one of those who haven't read it then head to your nearest bookstore now and pick up a copy! The story is about Cathy and Heathcliff and their fated but doomed love. Heathcliff is scored by society and leaves while his childhood love Cathy moves on and marries another man. Heathcliff comes back comes back and the drama starts! Although a slow start the background info is very useful to understand the motives of the charachters later. I personally loved this story. The charachters were horrible people but were so alive that you can't help caring for them. Those who love romance stories will love this book. Although there is no guarantee of a happy ending ;)

The first time I read it, it was a little bit confusing, but I was very young, now that I read it again (after reading Twilight) I was truly surprise that could had happen, because I really liked it and enjoyed it.
It was a great book , with great and strong characters that make you feel. Is a book you should read if you want something special, epic and romantic.
This is my favorites quote: "My love for Linton is like the foliage in the woods. Time will change
it, I'm well aware, as winter changes the trees - my love for
Heathcliff resembles the eternal rocks beneath - a source of little
visible delight, but necessary."

The story of Wuthering Heights is told to us through the point of view of Mrs. Nelly Dean, the housekeeper at Thrushcross Grange. The current lodger, Mr. Lockheart, visited Wuthering Heights and witnesses a ghost like girl named Catherine trying to enter the house. Intrigued, he askes Mrs. Dean for the story of Wuthering Heights. Nelly proceeds to tell him the story of two children with no nice qualities whatsoever that fall in love. Yet, they are separated because of their current station in life. This story is a sad one, yet you can identify with the characters in more ways than one.

"I cannot live without my life! I cannot live without my soul!"

I personally hated Jane Eyre, so being that the sister of the author of that book wrote this novel left me wary. I'd heard good and bad about this novel, literary critics are divided on whether this novel is good or bad.

Well, it's certainly something. Amazing as it is, this novel has some astounding insight into human flaws and such. It is made apparent that the main characters are flawed: so flawed that it affects their relationship (as it does in real life). The characters themselves are horrific at times, so unlikable, but the dynamics of the relationship really caught my eye and kept it there.

I'm horrible at explaining plot, but it is a love story, however peculiar that love might be. This novel offers up some really insightful analysis of the humans, and I found it worth the read.
