Do teenagers still like The Beatles? This is a question that came to mind as I read The Lonely Hearts Club. Elizabeth Eulberg's novel is brimming with Beatles references, from the awesome cover to the name of the main character, Penny Lane Bloom. I'll be interested to hear my students' response to all the Beatles trivia; honestly, I bet they won't even notice it.

The Lonely Hearts Club is a fun, breezy novel about what happens when heartbroken Penny decides to swear off dating and form The Lonely Hearts Club. Rapidly, many other disillusioned high school girls join up and begin to improve themselves and their school. Penny is happily baffled by the popularity of the club until she realizes she's not ready to swear off dating.

The self empowerment message is fairly simple in this novel, but may be exciting for readers who are experiencing it for the first time. I liked that Penny stood up for herself against an ingratiating ex and a pretty psycho classmate. I can easily imagine my bold eighth grade girls rooting for Penny. It's worth adding to your shelf.

The Lonely Hearts Club is Elizabeth Eulbergs debut novel. It is a relatable story about friendships for anyone whos ever sworn off love and then found it anyway.

Penny Lane is a high school junior. And yes, her parents named her after the famous Beatles song. Pennys parents are fanatical Beatles fan and actually named all 3 of their daughters after Beatles songs. After a humiliating and heartbreaking night with the boy Penny thinks she loves, she decides to start The Lonely Hearts Club (named after Sgt. Peppers band, of course) and swear off boys for the rest of her high school days. When word gets around about the club, dozens of girls want to join. Find out what happens with the club and how the girls deal with not dating boys, when they really want to!

You will fall in love with Penny and her friends Tracy and Diane. Youll crush on Ryan like a teenage girl. Youre heart will break for the girls and youll feel like you are in high school with them!

This book is a fun read for anyone who was once a teenage girl and got her heart broken by a boy. Its a great story of friendship and comes complete with tons of Beatles references. I happen to be a Beatles fan and loved all the song references and how quirky Pennys parents are! I also adored how Pennys parents were actually involved in her life and supported her throughout the entire book!

I highly recommend the book if you are looking for a fun read.

This was a fun and sweet read. Definitely for fans of contemporary ya books. Penny Lane is easy to relate to as a girl who was cheated on by her boyfriend and wants nothing else to do with boys. The twist is that she actually finds a boy whom she likes but of course things are complicated since she started The Lonely Hearts Club and the members have sworn of dating. I loved The Beatles theme of the book and all the references too! And the cover is just too cool! It was a cute read for those looking for something light and breezy!

The Beatles were the ones to say "love is all you need," and when I read this book, love was all I had. I was loving every minute and every page with a passion! It was fantastic and has officially become one of my 2010 favorites. Elizabeth Eulberg may be a debut author, but her writing style and The Lonely Hearts Club are magic, no question about it!

Penny Lane doesn't exactly have a normal or what one may consider a typical home and family, but one thing she seems to have in common with just about every girl around is boy trouble, and she's got it in spades. With The Beatles as her inspiration, she just may have found a solution to all of her problems, and those of her friends.

I really can't find any negatives about this book, other than I wish it hadn't ended, ever! But in all seriousness, if you ask me, there aren't any negatives about this book, it was wonderful. It was funny, quirky, realistic and with The Beatles all over it, and all through it, what's not to love? Even the cover is brilliant, don't you think?

Eulberg has a fresh voice and I don't think she'll be going anywhere anytime soon. She spoke at the book festival I attended a while back and after meeting her, there's no question that her writing comes from the heart. Her personality is all over this book. While speaking to the crowd, she may have mentioned a sequel being in the works for The Lonely Hearts Club in the future, and I couldn't be more excited about that prospect...really I was jumping up and down!

After finishing The Lonely Hearts Club, I most definitely have not had nearly enough of Penny Lane and her club of close friends. Whether it's Tracy, Diane, Morgan, Rita, Ryan or Penny's parents, I just adored them all and most definitely did not want to say goodbye. If you've got a sense of humor and are looking to add a new favorite to your shelves, look no further, The Lonely Hearts Club is the perfect book for everyone!

Penny Bloom, the daughter of extreme Beatles fans, is a girl who after a horrible summer decides boys are the devil's spawns. She's tired of how boys treat her and other girls and says nothing good can come from scum ( Her other word for boys). So she makes up The Lonely Hearts Club, which members are Penny, herself, and her. It's a club that states that you will not date for the remaining of High School and will make time for yourself and for your friends. Penny thought that it would be a small club with just herself, but she isn't the only one tired of boys' actions. Soon the club is bigger then ever and really thats too bad because Penny just happens to find a boy she likes.

Eulberg has created a read that captures the way young girls today are thinking, but also shares that not ALL boys just want to get in your pants. I enjoyed it because I loved the club aspect. All friends together, helping each other with homework or a fundraiser for the basketball team. I just loved it. As my review title states, it's a read for all the broken hearted.
