The Host is a magnificent trip into an innovative future of our world. Its a completely original story and you are sure to fall in love with the characters in a matter of pages. You travel with those characters and you end up feeling as if youve really been with them the whole time. The book is a tear jerking, completely lovely love story written by a master of love.
The thing I loved the most about this book was the love entanglement between Mel, Wanda, Ian, and Jared. I was kept in awe of how Meyer could possibly make the relationship work out in a way that would be pleasing for both Mel and Wanda.
I can't think of a single thing I disliked about this book. It is one of the best books I have ever read before. If you don't like Twilight you shouldn't let that stop you from reading this book.

In this modern story with thoughts towards "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", Stephenie Meyer blends the human fascination for the unknown as well as the horror. When Wanderer, Wanda, takes over the body of Melanie, she expects the girl's mind to fade away, as usually happens, but Melanie remains in the back of her head, struggling to regain control over her old body while Wanda is the one running all the shots.

Through a twisted love triangle, Wanda digs into Melanie's thoughts and manages to produce where humans are living. Struggling to find this place, she learns that human desire for compassion and love is something she has never experienced, but doesn't push away. Though, with Melanie in the back of her mind, not all her thoughts or actions are her own.

Wonderfully written and beautifully portrayed, Stephenie Meyer's newly crafted tale carries a spin as romance envelopes both characters trapped within one body. A wonderful science fiction book for people of all ages, THE HOST is an exciting, untold story which will shock readers.

The Host is Twilight author Stephenie Meyer's 'adult' novel about an alien race taking over Earth. There's fight and courage, love and strength woven into every word as we follow Melanie Stryder/Wanders story.

I, personally, believed The Host was far better than the Twilight saga which Meyer is known for. It had a crisper, more heart-wrenching story and drew me in deeper than her other series.

I read this book over summer and I thought it was magnificent, I loved every character and all of the points of this book: this book is about "souls" being incerted into humans brains so they can live, the "souls" are only about 3 inches long. when the "souls" started to take over humans, they tried to escape but not many did, but a soul that still had the actual human in them, her name was Wanderer (or Wanda), and she had directions to the place where her crazy uncle had made a map too. So Wanderer set off to find them and she did, and all the humans hated her because they thought that she was going to kill all of them. Two of the humans were Jamie ( the human inside of her's little brother) and Jared (her old Boyfriend) but wanderer fell in love with them. And there were Ian and Kyle (thier brothers)- Ian ends up loving Wanda and Kyle keeps trying to kill her. So it ends up this book is very unexpected and astonishingly interesting.

Writing: 5/5
Originality: 5/5

Reading experience: 5/5

After I flew through the Twilight Saga in the fall of 2008, I questioned Meyer's ability to write a comparable work and in such a short time. I put off reading The Host until the June of '09. I fell in love with Twilight, despite the spelling and grammatical errors, and when I started reading The Host my skepticism did not cease within the first ten pages. In fact, I almost abandoned the book, which I rarely do, but I decided to persist and boy am I glad I did. The Host is officially in my Top Five favorite books of all time. I soon found out the bizarre beginning was perfectly written and contrasts well with the rest of the book. Meyer captures the emotions and facial expressions of the characters in an unmistakeable manner, forcing you too love or hate the characters. But as the plot progresses and the character's demeanor changes, so too does your opinion. While daunting at first, I came to enjoy the length of The Host. You will find yourself going through so many emotions when reading this book that you are thankful she includes as much as she does. It is safe to say everyone will feel closure in the end, but it is a rollercoaster ride to get there. The first ten pages are that awkward clinking you have to sit through before the initial drop and then you find yourself waiting in a queue through the next hundred or so pages. But it all fits well into the storyline and The Host completely blows Twilight out of the water.

This is by far, Stephanie Meyer's best novel. In this novel, Meyer leaves behind her fantasy vampire world, and takes you to a futuristic society where humanity has been taken over by a race of aliens, making humans calm and complaint. Wanda's host isn't going to take it though, and fights back against the alien that has been implanted in her head. This is a great story about love, and finiding your true identity.

With "The Host", I did genuinely enjoy the meaning behind the story, and the story itself. I actually started to get really into it. The first few chapters were difficult for me to get into- I even considered just deleting it off my kindle and not even bothering, but I've never done that with the hundreds of books I've read, and I didn't want to have that one blemish on my "book-log". Who can judge a book wholeheartedly without even finishing?
So, after a few chapters, it started to get more interesting. I understood the plotline as it got clearer, and the writing style started to get easier to read as well. Truthfully I'm very glad that I finished it. I even got a little teary-eyed towards the end. Sure, some parts were sappy, but when you look at the overall picture- its pretty good. Humanity in it's purest form is shaped and outlined through the story of Wanderer/Melanie and the other humans. I'd rather give this book a 4.5 star rating, but since I technically can't, 5 stars will do. I'd rather over-rate the book than under-rate it.
If you can get past the first few chapters, the book will definitely be worth it- it's worth a try. I'd explain what makes me feel the way I do about this book, but I don't want to give any spoilers. Read the book- it'll be worth it in the end!

*The movie comes out March 2013- can't wait for that!
