Student glass magician Opal Cowan's newfound ability to steal a magician's powers makes her too powerful. Ordered to house arrest by the Council, Opal dares defy them, traveling to the Moon Clan's lands in search of Ulrick, the man she thinks she loves. "Thinks" because she is sure another man -- now her prisoner -- has switched souls with Ulrick.

In hostile territory, without proof or allies, Opal isn't sure whom to trust. She can't forget Kade, the handsome Stormdancer who doesn't want to let her get close. And now everyone is after Opal's special powers for their own deadly gain.

Maybe, if you have read my review of Storm Glass (granted, you may not have), you might have noticed that this time I rated the "Characters" five stars instead of four. Let me explain. In this book, unlike the first one, I was feeling more what Opal was feeling.

Also, Devlen (evil guy from last book) is, I think, quite a refreshing character. It's great when the bad guys have some shades of grey instead of all black and white.

Opal, Sitia's "Glass Magician", has become a dangerous person. She has the power to take another magicians' power away. Her only saving grace with the Council is that she also has the ability to create glass messengers that means that the Council can communicate quickly and easily (kind of like Skype, except instead of a computer you have a little glass statue).

But, more important to Opal, is the fact that two people have had their souls switched, and she really needs to switch them back. Unfortunately, it appears that Ulrick is much more happy to stay right where he is. He has gone from being a pretty useless magician to one that can stifle Opal's magic.

Naturally, with Opal, nothing is easy or simple.

Yelena appears in this book! Yay! That was great, but I found it really weird to hear her described from an "outsider" and hearing her as Opal would have heard her: responsible, powerful and totally in control, when that does really not seem like the Yelena we have come to know and love.

I still love Janco. Who couldn't (yes, he also appears in this book).

The love triangle was very confusing...

This was yet another amazing book delivered by Snyder.
