Pentangle

Pentangle has all the elements of a great teen novel: suspense, romance, believable characters and action. And did I mention friendship and family ties?

Jessica is an orphan with no family and no idea about her past. All she knows is that her mother died horribly while involved with a cult and that she herself was rescued from certain death.

She has been shifted from foster home to foster home and the constant moving has taken a toll on her. Jessica is afraid to be close to anyone or to let anyone in to her life.

When her latest move comes the same day she gets invited by her coach to compete in a state meet, she resolves again to close herself off from being hurt. But that's easier said than done when two new guys come into her life.

Hamilton "Ham" Phipps seems to always pop up when she needs him to, but she can't help arguing and teasing him. Derek LaVoie holds her with a nearly animal magnetism. He's good looking, the arch enemy of Ham and carries with him an undercurrent of danger.

Her new foster mother, Myra Lucerne, is also a puzzle that Jessica isn't even sure she wants to solve. One minute, she is cold and abrupt and the next she is warm and receptive. Jessica doesn't know what to make of her or the strange, occult-like occurrences around the house.

As she learns more about Derek, herself, Myra, and Ham, she also discovers new truths about the death of her mother and her own strengths.
