A merry band of penguins ventures out of the Antarctic and into the adventure of a lifetime in a quirky, rainbow-bright tale of friendship and community building.

All day long the penguin colony plays and plays, and when the sun goes down and the night grows cold and dark, they squeeze and squish together (“penguin huddle!”) to stay warm and snug. But one morning, after a freezing gale, the penguins find themselves stuck, frozen together like a giant penguin ice pop. When no one in the Antarctic can unstick them (“penguin muddle!”), Pipsqueak, the smallest penguin of all, leads his fellows out of their snowy home to a city across the sea in search of help. Whimsical adventures ensue in this global giggle-fest teeming with colorful details—a warm, wintry treat for fans of penguins, playful antics, and celebratory cuddles.

The story begins with a group of penguins getting frozen together after they huddle together during a fierce storm. What ensues is a series of delightfully intricate illustrations showing the lengths they go to for help. The text is fun and the illustrations enhance the tale for a perfect balance to engage young readers. I like that at the end once they are free, they realize even though it was not fun having to be squished together, it was still nice to be together. This is a charming book sure to delight winter and penguin lovers alike who also like a good cuddle with family during the cold months ahead.

What I liked:
The Penguin Huddle is a brilliant children's picture book with excellent illustrations that your child will want to spend time hunting out all the various animals and details on every page. Penguins huddle to keep warm at night, but one night, a nasty storm rolls in and freezes the penguins into a huddle they can't unfreeze. As a result, they end up asking for help from various animals and even go on a journey involving a doctopus.
Final Verdict:
I love the kind of books that have a sweet meaning at the end, and this one is perfect. Even though the penguins get out of their frozen huddle, the smallest penguin misses it, but they all reassure him that whenever he needs it and when the nights grow cold, he will always be able to have a penguin cuddle.
