A captivating tale of eerie places and mystical bargains, sumptuously illustrated by Kate Greenaway Medalist Levi Pinfold

Washed clean in his pool, we fall under his rule . . .
Away from what is, we all are now his.

When a young girl and her older brothers step into the ghostly Paradise Sands hotel, they fall under the rule of the mysterious Teller. The girl makes a deal with the commanding creature to free them all from his haunting paradise—and let them return to their mother, white roses in hand. But can the girl, determined as she is, hold up her side of the bargain? A contemporary story with the feel of a classic fairy tale, Levi Pinfold’s Paradise Sands is lush with enchanting illustrations, rendered in a muted palette with the artist’s distinctive stylistic realism.

When a family travels to see their mom, they stop for a break at Paradise Sands Hotel where they meet the Teller. With food and water, the Teller traps the brothers and it's up to their sister to save them. She bargains with the Teller and he claims that if she can go three days without food or water then he will set her brothers free. With temptations set in front of her, will she be able to hold out for her brothers?

PARADISE SANDS is a chilling and enthralling story about a young girl who will do anything for the safety of her family. The illustrations are a dull color, but that doesn't take away from the magic of them. It adds to the haunting sensation that lingers with each melodic sentence. I love the family theme too and how it's a life lesson on what's important and to not take from others.

Final Verdict: PARADISE SANDS is a story that both adults and children can enjoy together since it feels like a tale out of a book from Hans Christian Anderson with the dark magical theme. I would recommend this to children who enjoy haunting and creepy stories.
