Old Magic
User reviews
Overall, I thought this was a very captivating story was impressed by the author as this is the first book I have read of hers. The way the chapters went back and forth changing perspectives between Kate and Jarrod gave the story added interest because both characters feelings toward each other and magic are very particular. This eliminated any questions there might have been were it to be written from only one perspective. My only complaint is that the first part (of 3 total) didnt have enough consistent action to fully enthrall me. Parts two and three are what really fascinated me. As they traveled to medieval times and back again Jarrod learned to believe in himself, his powers, and most importantly Kate. She discovered what live was like without magic for a short period of time and how to express to Jarrod her feelings toward him. With an ending overflowing with sweet romance this book will not disappoint.
How many ways will I say awesome in this review? It's been a while since i've read a book and had very few complaints. I'm not trying to say this book was perfect. It was actually only a bit better then average. My favorite thing? No REAL annoying characters! There is only one part when Kate pisses me off. And that is when she pulls a Bella. She decides she's gonna risk her own safety and well-being for others. Seriously? Do you really think this is going to work Kate? Because your plan really sucks. That annoying part didn't really last long though. Now onto the amazingness. Finally a book that can be fantasy without any vamps! I mean it's not like the witch idea was really creative but it was different. I really liked when Jarrod battles, he has the ability to keep you at the edge of your seat without being disgusted. All of the characters were very well written. Kate was brave and confident despite being ridiculed by her classmates, which gave her a sense of confidence that I admire. Overall I think Old Magic was a fascinating read with a different storyline and pretty fantastic characters.
Kate knows theres something different about Jarrod, especially when he makes a thunderstorm occur inside their classroom. And while Kate has practiced magic with the aid of her grandmother, she has never been able to change the weather. She knows that Jarrod has immense power.
A friendship develops between the two and Kate soon learns about a curse that was placed on Jarrods family. With help from Kates grandmother, the two journey through time to stop the curse. They stay with Jarrods ancestors, but the two have to pretend they are newlyweds as a cover story. Their struggles are difficult, and Kate finds herself falling in love with Jarrod. Then she is kidnapped, and she pretends not to love him so that Jarrod can go free.
Of course, this book has a happy ending, which I wont spoil. However, I was a little disappointed. I read Marianne Curleys The Dark series, which I liked better. I had expected it to be more like that series. Overall, though, it is a fast and easy read and if you like magic, then this is the book for you.
