Nico is coming over to play, but Sally doesn't want him to touch her toy squirrel. Or her train. Not her parking garage either. Sally's mom said to put the things she doesn't want to share in the wardrobe. As it turns out, there are quite a lot of things Sally doesn't want to share--including her mom.

This fresh and funny approach to sharing shows just how complicated hiding all the things you love can be. In the end, it might be easier to give sharing a try. Maybe.

Mine! Is a relatable story for young children. Sally has a friend coming to play and does not want her favorite toy to be played with. Her mother suggests it go into the closet until after her friend leaves. What happens next is a fantastical exaggeration of Sally’s desire to not share by putting everything including her mother into the closet. Things work out naturally when she hears her friend whom she also put in the closet playing and everything falls out. Through this humorous tall tale, children may conclude that Sally went a bit too far and maybe there are indeed a few things that can stay out after all. The illustrations reflect a childishness to Sally’s wishes that lends itself well to showing that this is a make-believe tale. The child I read this with was laughing in disbelief as the actions became more outlandish and she enthusiastically told me she loved the book.
