What I liked: Through knock-knock jokes, riddles, tongue twisters, and corny jokes this book incorporates a ton of scientific facts in a fun way. The vibrant photographs were very engaging. I discovered that one of my children read ahead of me so they would know all the answers when I did a read-aloud proving that it is perfect for keeping engagement for Middle-Grade readers for hours of entertainment. The part I enjoyed the most about the book is the anecdotes of wacky real-life science experiments that have been conducted such as pouring syrup-like substances in a pool to test if it is actually harder to move through than water.
What Left Me Wanting More: I really appreciated the scientific facts that were sprinkled throughout the book. I do wish on some of the harder jokes there was a bit more of an explanation for younger readers to gain some background.
Final Verdict: There were several jokes that made me crack up they were so clever. One of my favorites was “Why did the oceanographer throw her books in the ocean?” Answer: To create a title wave. These wholesome jokes worthy of any dad joke tended to hold the engagement of my older Middle-Grade reader because he had enough background in science to catch on to the jokes. My younger Middle-Grade reader was often a bit confused because she hasn’t had as much science or homophone practice. However, she was interested in asking questions and trying to understand the joke so it did encourage curiosity and lots of conversation to try and give her enough background to understand. Therefore, it is probably better for 10+ if they plan to read this book independently.
