This version of Heidi was a condensed and simplified version of the classic novel enhanced with illustrations. The text hits on the main action points of the original story with appropriate length and word choice for a younger audience. The story has a happy ending but in the condensed version, the full harshness of Heidi’s situation is strongly conveyed. I think this version of the story might work particularly well with counselors and other mental health specialists who work with children who might identify with Heidi’s experiences and can use it for further discussions. Overall, I would recommend being careful with this book. Most children would not think anything about it but some may need to discuss what they read afterwards.
