This was a good read, maybe not as good as the first book but developing some interesting plot twists for Book 3, Passion. At times it was a little repetitive - too many of the same scene where Daniel takes Luce in his arms and they kiss in the air among the stars - where I would have preferred their relationship to have been explored a little deeper. I know (spoiler) that Daniel and Luce spend most of this book apart but, on the occasions they are together I would think it would be more passionate - and I mean passion, not sex - that would not work in this book. But, I still enjoyed it and I liked Luce's confusion over her feelings for Daniel and the "safer" alternative, Miles. The ending really does add an interesting twist though, which made me jump straight to Book 3.

That’s what it’s like for Luce to be apart from her fallen angel boyfriend, Daniel. It took them an eternity to find one another, but now he has told her he must go away. Just long enough to hunt down the Outcasts—immortals who want to kill Luce. Daniel hides Luce at Shoreline, a school on the rocky California coast with unusually gifted students: Nephilim, the offspring of fallen angels and humans.

At Shoreline, Luce learns what the Shadows are, and how she can use them as windows to her previous lives. Yet the more Luce learns, the more she suspects that Daniel hasn’t told her everything. He’s hiding something—something dangerous.

What if Daniel’s version of the past isn’t actually true? What if Luce is really meant to be with someone else?

I've really liked Luce in the last book, Fallen, as she took it upon herself to do things and discover what's happening. But in this one, Luce has lost this charm, and now relies on Daniel or her friends to figure things out. She is not adventurous as much as before, but she still has her moments like with the Announcers and so on.

I think that this story was a bit slow, and that nothing really happened until the end, while everyone was at dinner. I got really bored halfway through, and just wanted to get the over and done with. The ending was enjoyed, but it still missed that certain quality that all great books have.

Even thought I didn't enjoy this book that much, I know there are people out there who are into this kind of stories, and I know that this wouldn't let them down.
Good Points
-I like the new characters, like Shelby and Miles

First I have to say these books have the most beautiful covers I love it! They are so dramatic and Gothic oh and I think the dresses are amazing... So I instantly wanted to read them.

However I felt they fell short of all the hype. Don't get me wrong they are still good stories well worth the read and Torment WAS better then Fallen it had a lot more direction and the terminology is a lot better, but I am yet to be won over by the series.

A lot of the plot is Luce and her procrastinating over Daniel so its definitely a slow start. I really like Arriane in both books she seems very kick-ass and cool. Shelby was a good edition to Torment shes very much like Arriane.

Cam god bless him even though hes "A demon" he makes a good distraction with his bad boy with a heart image he has going on....because if it was all Daniel Daniel Daniel I think I would of got extremely bored.

Reader reviewed by EGZ

I, being a fan of the Fallen series found the beginning of this book to
be a little slower and less gripping than I would have hoped. New
characters are introduced, which added to the feel of the book. I liked
the character of Shelby, who changes drastically throughout the book.
The author, Lauren Kate does a good job focusing on Luce's emotions,
which is where I felt it became slower.

Once I got deeper into the plot it began to quicken and become more
gripping as twists  in the story come and the characters begin to become
familiar.

The end of the book was hard to follow if you didn't pull your entire
focus toward the story. Things become complex, and action packed, adding
to the action of the story.
