Ever Bloom was sixteen years old when she lost her parents, younger sister, and dog in a horrible car accident. Ever survived, and she has felt guilty about it ever since. Ever didn't just survive, she received a gift. Ever can see people's auras, read minds, and know everything about someone just by touching them. At her new high school, Ever hides under hoods, baggy jeans, and listens to her iPod to drown out the sounds of people's thoughts and avoid touching anyone. Ever's life changes drastically when she meets Damen Auguste. He is gorgeous, and all the girls (and some boys) in Ever's high school are in love with him. There's something different about him, Ever cannot see his aura and whenever he is around her she can't hear all the voices in her head. As Ever is drawn closer and closer to Damen she learns some surprising things about both Damen and herself.
This was an excellent book, well written and exciting. It kept me turning pages, wanting to know what would happen next. I would recommend this to any fantasy fans or people who just like a good love story. I can't wait to read the next book in the series, Blue Moon.

After Ever's family is killed in a car accident, she can see people's auras, and she talks to her sister's ghost every day. One day, though, a guy called Damen comes to her school who doesn't have an aura at all. He also seems very interested in her, and she can't stop thinking about him. Also, one of her best friends starts becoming close with another aura-less girl who's changing who she is.

Evermore is an interesting book that doesn't tell you what's happening straight-out at first. It made me want to know what was going on. Also, Ever's romantic interest in Damen is written in a descriptive way that allows readers to relate to Ever and understand exactly what she's feeling. I enjoyed Evermore, and I recommend it.

To be fair I thought this was another teen vampire romance. I have
heard about this book for a number of months (since October at least)
from other bloggers, though I've avoided reviews so that I didn't have
any preconceptions, and I can understand why. Even though this is aimed
for a teen market, the author doesn't dumb down the concepts or
'reality' of anyone's situation. Damen is far from perfect (despite how
he presents himself) and Ever is clearly damaged more then she wishes
to acknowledge.

But then so is everyone else around them. From
Ever's best friends Haven (who attends anonymous addict meetings of all
sorts to get the attention and love she can't from her self-absorbed
family) and Miles (Mr. Gay and Proud of it theater man) to the social
bullies (Stacia Miller, the leader, Miss Teen Perfection with more
dirty laundry then a laundry mat), no one is perfect. And for Ever that
is less of a reassuring concept and more of a distress because she
can't even pretend that they might be.

I was relieved to see
that Ever wasn't the sort to just be a push over when it came to Damen
either. He messes up, a lot, and makes a scramble of things, a lot, and
Ever calls him on it. Unfortunately for him he suffers the
misconception of thinking that Ever is perfect--he acknowledges the
trauma of the past and her inability to move on from it, but he holds
this static image of her in his head that doesn't evolve until closer
to the end when things become apparent that he overlooked.

The
only complaint I have is with Haven. From an outsider's perspective she
doesn't seem like a good friend at all. Or rather she's fine as long as
Ever remains an anti-social misfit hiding inside an oversized hoodie,
but when Ever makes strides towards coming out of the bubble she
becomes catty, jealous and angry. As if its a betrayal of some sort. I
felt bad for Ever because it was obvious she wanted to make Haven
happy, but by being herself it just made Haven angry.

Evermore (The Immortal Series)
Alyson Noel
Publisher: St. Martin's Griffin
Release Date: February 3, 2009
Pages: 301
Reading Level: Young Adult

Rating: 5 stars

Since a horrible accident claimed the lives of her family, Ever can see auras, hear people's thoughts, and know a person's entire life story by touch. Going out of her way to avoid human contact and suppress her abilities has branded her as a freak at her new high schoolbut everything changes when she meets Damen.

Damen Auguste is gorgeous, exotic and wealthy. He's the only one who can silence the noise and random energy in her headwielding a magic so intense, it's as though he can see straight into her soul. As Ever is drawn deeper into his enticing world of secrets and mystery, she's left with more questions than answers. She has no idea just who he really isor what he is. The only thing she knows to be true is she's falling deeply and helplessly in love with him.

I could not wait to get my hands on Evermore! I had read Alyson Noel's other books, and could not wait to read another! I absolutely loved it! I read straight through this one.
I really liked the plot Noel created. It was exciting and kept you interested. Evermore was well written, and flowed together nicely.
Ever's character was intriguing. I could really feel for her, what she was going through. Damen was interesting, but you did not find out as much about him or feel for him as much. Not much of a backstory was given, but maybe that's to come? Miles was one of my favorite characters. Something about him was just very agreeable. Haven was a great character. She was different and realistic. Drina was interesting as well, but there could have maybe been a bit more to her.
I thought the cover was absolutely beautiful.
I simply cannot wait for Blue Moon, book 2 in the Immortal Series. I read the preview in the back of Evermore, and it sounds just amazing!

Also, I'd just like to add this. I've heard so many comparisons of Evermore to Twilight, and I really do not get it. They are completely different. Everything these days is compared to Twilight...

Then Damen comes to school and feels strangely atracted to him. Damen has the power to bring Ever out of her shell.

This book is sooo cool! I thought it would be, like, too much like Twilight by Stephanie Meyer (Which I love) to like but it was pretty original. I like the whole falling in love with a vampire and possibly dying today thing. Another thing I like about this is how Ever dies but comes back to life. It is soooo romantic how he waits for her to come back each time she dies. She always dies too early, though, because she some how always dies a virgin. :(
Really good book.

Summary from back of book:
"After a horrible accident claims the lives of her family, sixteen-year-old Ever Bloom can see people's auras, hear thier thoughts, and know someone's entire life story by touching them. Going out of her way to avoid human contact and suppress her abilities, she has been branded a freak at her new high school - but everything changes when she meets Damen Auguste.
Damen is gorgeous, exotic, and wealthy. He's the only one who can silence the noise and random energy in her head - wielding a magic so intense, it's as though he can peer straight into her soul. As Ever is drawn deeper into his enticing world of secrets and mystery, she's left with more questions than answers. And she hasno idea just who he really is - or what he is. The only things she nows to be true is that she's falling deeply and helplessly in love with him."

From the summary on the back of this book it many parallels can be drawn between this book and the extemely popular Twilight. While I'm not sure Evermore will ever be the megahit that Twilight is, it is definitely a book to take a look at. The Immortals idea is not new, but it is a bit of a new take from Noel's perspective. The romance between Ever and Damen is very well done. I personally like when two characters who are so obviously destined for one another have some obstacles to overcome. I'll be looking for the next book in the Immortals series, Blue Moon. 9 our of 10 stars for Evermore!

If you like romantic, fantasy, mystery, supernatural, and totally awesome books... this is one of them! I loved this book, I've read it five times! The mysteriousness of Damen is SOOO thrilling... it's unreal! The emotions of Ever and her sister were described completely. I'd give it 6 stars if I could. I can't wait for Blue Moon, the sequel. I want everyone to read this book... if they want to that is. :)
