new sound board book based on a popular song

THE WONKY DONKEY SOUND BOOK is a board book of the Wonky Donkey Song with a sound button that makes a loud donkey sound (hee-haw!). For people who are not familiar with the Wonky Donkey song, the book builds on each page until it builds up to a spunky, hanky-panky, cranky, stinky dinky, lanky, honky-tonky, winky, wonky donkey.

What I loved: The buildable song is something that appeals to young children, and the colorful images include the donkey on each page. The sound button is also something that will appeal to children who enjoy animal sounds, as this one includes a braying donkey that can be pressed on every page.

What left me wanting more: Not having heard the song before, I was surprised that the donkey is described as wonky for having a prosthetic limb. I am not sure if this would be the most apt description or helpful in considering others children may meet with prosthetic limbs. There is also a somewhat disturbing detail of the bird holding an eyeball from the now one-eyed donkey. Children may or may not catch that, but the bird is flying above the donkey, holding the eyeball. Also, as a heads up, the sound can be a bit much for adults, as it is a rather loud braying. If I could pick a sound, it would have been better to have the song attached to the book or a few sounds to add some auditory diversity.

Final verdict: THE WONKY DONKEY SOUND BOOK will appeal to fans of the buildable song. I would add some caution for the descriptor of the prosthetic limb and the sound itself.
