10 Dogs was a great counting book that featured all the ways to add to make ten. At the same time, it also tells a fun story of dogs and their ever-changing fate to get 10 sausages. At first, the ten dogs have no sausages but then on each successive page, we work through math facts using the commutative property of addition. The dogs stealing, guarding, and chasing are comical and believable making it a clever story to accompany great math for early readers. The illustrations were engaging and I love the touch at the back where you can see the grease stain where there used to be sausages now that there are 10 dogs and no sausages. This book is versatile in that it could be read to toddlers and preschool students who enjoy it for the funny story about dogs. However, I love the idea of using it with elementary-age students and either with help from a teacher or by themselves write down the math they see on each page and introduce the actual idea of the properties of addition.
