Hi, YABCers!

Today we’re super excited to celebrate the cover reveal for

Unravel (Amelia Loken),

releasing February 15th, 2022 from Sword and Silk Books!

Before we get to the cover, here’s a note from Amelia Loken:

Hello YABC Readers!

I am thrilled to be sharing the cover reveal for my upcoming debut YA fantasy!

Coming February 15, 2022, from Sword and Silk Books, UNRAVEL is a tapestry of magic and disability, of hiding in plain sight and rushing to the rescue. I’m so very pleased with the absolutely beautiful cover art by Celin Chen. The crimson cloth and black-stitched oak tree are a rendition of the Valonian flag from the story. Celin artfully captures the tension that’s tearing apart Marguerite’s kingdom and endangering her heart. I love the frayed edges and loose threads, illustrating Marguerite’s struggle with her magical embroidery skill, Skeincraft. And I especially love the hidden faces of Marguerite and Tys within the branches of the oak tree.
UNRAVEL is the story I wish I could give to my teen self who smiled through trauma, wanting desperately to be brave, while yearning for someone to see the real me inside. That girl loved the books of Robin McKinley and Tamora Pierce, and later discovered the work of Shannon Hale and Juliet Marillier. Many of my favorite elements from those stories are stitched into this one: magic, embroidery, beautiful gowns, sign language, deaf representation, strong female mentors, and forbidden love with a handsome, cocky, tightrope-walking acrobat who makes my heroine laugh. I can’t wait for you to read it!

About the Book

Sixteen-year-old Marguerite knows her uncle doesn’t like her. True, she’s in line for the throne before him and he contends she’s too deaf to rule, but she’s known since he broke her hand to keep her from using sign language. Now, as the kingdom’s Bishop-Princep, Uncle Reichard has declared war on magic and Marguerite must hide the fact that she’s a witch.
While witnessing her first witch trial, Marguerite rescues a child from death with the help of a handsome, itinerant acrobat, Tys. Marguerite flees, hiding in the neighboring empire where magical gifts can flourish. Before her training is complete, war threatens. She returns home, only to witness her uncle seizing the throne. He isolates and imprisons her. Marguerite’s love for her people drives her to continue defying him. But to challenge him means she’ll have to rely on her homemade invisibility cloak, questionable allies, and Tys, the one boy she never should have trusted.

I know I shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover, but I know that I am going to be excited to read this because the cover is almost as amazing as the author! LOVE the embroidery and detail!
