“Welcome to Our Table: A Celebration of What Children Eat All Around the World,” by Laura Micha and Ed Smith, illustrated by Harriet Lynas, starts off with a table of contents that includes not only words, but pictures. Each chapter is introduced and includes a few words of explanation to clarify what each will cover. From setting the table and discovering what different cultures and countries use to eat their food (forks, spoons, knives, chopsticks, hands, etc.) to learning about taste and texture, that is only the beginning. From there, readers learn different ways to eat rice, corn, bread, noodles, fruits, vegetables, and so many other types of food.

It is interesting to learn what places different foods are most popular, as well as how to pronounce certain food items and understand what they mean in different languages. From learning about different kinds of eggs (how big they are, what they taste like, etc.) to all the kinds of things that can be made from milk, apples, and more, there is something for everyone who likes almost any food item. If pastries and desserts are more to a reader’s liking, there is information about that, as well as learning how to say “delicious” in a variety of languages. A list of countries and places featured in the book is included in the back matter.
