When Renna goes swimming in a pond, she never expects to meet a boy named Trev in the most unladylike way. Things with him seem easy and an immediate connection forms. Traveling with her mom and sister, she gets another surprise when she discovers the boy is actually a prince. But not just any prince. Trev is the prince who's engaged to Renna's sister, Seran.

Despite the connection Trev and Renna have, they can't act on it. For the good of their countries, Trev and Seran must marry. The worst part is that Renna has to watch the two interact and go through with the engagement. Renna tries to distance herself as much as she can from Trev, but something keeps pushing them back together. With an election coming up, their society is full of betrayal, hate, and schemes. Hard times calls for hard measures, but who will be left standing in the end?

THE PROMISED PRINCE is supposed to be a dystopian novel, but to me it reads more as a romance with princes and princesses. Kind of like American Royals. I love all of the characters. Drake is just adorable and dependent. Trev is loyal and courageous. Seran will do anything for her country and is a strong woman. Renna is sweet and kind and isn't afraid to say it like it is. I fell in love with each of the characters which is why I think it could've ended differently. Nonetheless, I thoroughly enjoyed how easy and relaxing of a read this book is. If you're looking for some light, forbidden romance, then this is one you don't want to miss.

Final Verdict: This is the first book I've read by Kortney Keisel and I would recommend it to fans of royalty, romance, schemes of politics, and coming of age.
