When i first started reading City of Bones; I thought it was going to be another "teen vampire book" like Stephenie Meyer's Twilight series. Which don't get me wrong; I enjoyed very much, However they are becoming very overrated. When i first started reading City of Bones; i was kind of iffy about the book. I wasn't too sure if it was something that could grab my attention. By the third chapter, i was so enthralled in the book that i could barely put it down.

Clare kept my interest through drama, suspence, romance, weirwolves, fairies, and shadowhunters. Her portrayal of Clary (Clarissa) Fray was absolutely amazing. I felt that i was in Clary's shoes throughout the whole book, experiencing everything she had first hand.

The book in a nutshell is about 15 year old Clary Fray who watches a boy being murdered in a dance club one night while hanging out with her friend. The bad thing is; she's the only one who seen it. Not that no one seen it; just that no one could see it. The world she had once known was all thrown away the night she meets a "shadowhunter" named Jace. Everything she thought she knew about her life was now just a distant memory. She comes to find out her mother was a shadowhunter, along with her father Valentine. One of the most feared shadownhunters in the clave. Her mother Jocelyn is kidnapped, and it is up to Clary and Jace to find her and bring her back safely.

The book is absolutely gripping, from start to finish. Cassandra Clare is an amazing author; and grabs the readers attention. I personally cannot wait to read the second book of the three part series "City of Ashes". I would definetely recommend this book to anyone who loves vampires, demons, fairies, and werewolves. Thumbs up Clare =)

Clary lives in in a world where everything is normal(or is it) until
she witnesses a murder by 3 teens (with weird rune markings on there
arms) that know one can see. They tell her they killed a demon and not
some normal teen. Clary was pretty freaked out about it but goes home
and sees her mom with packing saying there going on a summer vacation.
Clary gets mad and leaves with her BFF Simon to this poetry lounge.
While there she sees the mysterious guy that killed the demon(who's
name is jace). he leaves and she follows him out. Then she gets a phone
call from her mom telling her to not come home, that he's come back for
her, and tell luke its Valentine. Obviously Clary doesn't listen and
take Jaces demon sense thinking its a cell phoneand goes home. The
Adventure begins........

I Love this book, there's a little love
triangle going on aww.. Clary gets involve in that Dark fantasy
world.Uncovers some of her moms secrets that weren't suppose to be
found out. I love how i could never predict whats going to happen next.
Ever chapter was exiting. Lot of betrayal which i couldn't even
predict, i was always like "OMG" or "what". I was a little disappointed
in the End when it came to Clary and Jace's relationship, but i kind of
looked for some spoilers to see if it was true. happy that its not YAY.
Can't wait to read City Of Ashes!!!

From back cover: THEIR HIDDEN WORLD IS ABOUT TO BE REVEALED& When fifteen-year old Clary Fray heads out to Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Clary knows she should call the police, but its hard to explain a murder when the body disappears into thin air and the murderers are invisible to everyone but Clary.
Equally startled by her ability to see them, the murderers explain themselves as Shadowhunters: a secret tribe of warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. Within twenty-four hours, Clarys mother disappears and Clary herself is almost killed by a grotesque demon.
But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundane like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know&

Favorite characters, quotes/lines: Clary: I liked her prickliness, it seemed to draw in and instead of keep other characters out& like Jace; Simon: he was very funny and very nerdy (two of my very favorite qualities!), I was glad that he was Clarys best friend (and no more); Jace: he is the type of guy that I always love in books& tough on the outside, but all mush on the inside& and I love that only Clary really sees this side of him. Im totally rooting for them!

When I finished this book I felt: I finished this book in one day (in between waiting on people at Subway mostly&) then I finished it at home and read City of Ashes right away that night. Thats how good these books are. If I owned City of Glass I would have read that one directly after the first two. There are some books that draw you in and just dont let you go until you know every twist and every character inside and out and The Mortal Instruments series are those kinds of books. They are addictive. I honestly cannot imagine what I would have done if I finished City of Bones and then had to wait for City of Ashes and Glass to come out& I probably would have gone insane&

Other books to read by this author: City of Ashes, City of Glass, The Infernal Devices (a trilogy to be published that will be a set of prequels to the Mortal Instuments trilogy)

I would recommend this book to: Fantasy/scifi lovers& girls and guys!

Clary had no idea how much her life would change when she walked
into Pandemonium Club with her best friend Simon. At the club, she sees
three strange teenagers kill someone. The weirdest part? After they
killed the boy, the body completely vanishes! Clary learns that the
teenages, Jace, Isabelle, and Alec are a part of a group called
Shadowhunters. Shadowhunters free the world from demons. Clary soon
learns that she and her mother are a part of this mysterious world&

I was overjoyed when I learned that I would receive this book from
the Pulse It program back in April. I had been wanting to read the
series for some time. Luckily, I was not disappointed. City of Bones
was filled with twists and turns, which made me want to keep reading.
The characters were also very likable. My favorites were Clary, Jace,
and Simon. Almost every character had a hidden past, and reading about
it was probably my favorite part of the novel. The past revealed that
things were not like they originally seemed. This is kind of random and
insignificant to the novel, but another part that I really enjoyed was
this quote:

He raised an eyebrow, which made Clary instantly jealous. Shed always wanted to be able to do that.

I have always wanted to be able to raise my eyebrow one at a time too! Seriously, I love watching people do it!

On a more important note, the only thing I did not like about the novel was the pacing. The pacing is very controlled.
By controlled, I mean most readers will probably have read the book
slightly slower than an average book to understand all the
descriptions. Its almost as if Clare is saying to readers, I know you
want to find out whats going to happen next, but Id rather torment
you with insignificant(, yet interesting) details. Muahaha! It is hard
for this type of pacing to work well for a fantasy novel, especially
for City of Bones.  When I read a fantasy novel, I want a book a fast-paced, action-filled novel. While City of Bones had plenty of action, I would not call it a fast-paced novel.

Still, City of Bones is a great start to series, and now I really want to read the other novels!

My friends had me addicted to one series (The Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer) for over four years. I refused to read anything BUT that series until my best friend practically shoved this book down my throat.
When I first began the book, I was a little confused. My friend had promised romance and vampires and werewolves... something I was longing so desperatly for... I caught myself (atleast for the first 3 chapters) waiting for Edward Cullen or Jacob Black to magically appear and kick some Shadowhunter butt.
I then realized that I was unable to put the book down. I began to catch myself in class (when I wasn't reading) daydreaming about Jace Wayland (the "Edward Cullen" of the book). I began wondering what would happen next. Would Clary figure out Simon was crazy about her?
When I finished the book, I was hungry for more. I wanted the second book so desperatly, that I got up at 10 PM, drove over to my best friends' (the one who reccommended the book to me) house and took her book (just because the book store was closed).

To those of you who are addicted to one book series, be prepared to drop that and come to The Immortal Instruments series By Cassandra Clare...it will truly blow your mind.
