If you have come for the fairytale ending of the trilogy, then you have come to the right book in THE CURSED ROSE. Things start with Fi locked in The Spindle Witch’s tower with Briar an unrecognizable silent bone beast. Shane and Red are with the refugees from Everlynd trying to figure out how to salvage the mess they are in to still save Andar.
We get the satisfaction of Fi finally getting a bit of revenge on Armand Bellicia and learning a bit more about Perrin and the Paper Witch. We learn how the Spindle Witch came to power and slowly the secrets to defeating her. Fi battles with insecurities that she is not the fated savior but the final solution proves that everything happens for a reason.
Many highlights of this finale kept me turning pages. I enjoyed Fi and Shane’s clever and death-defying romp through Aurora’s ancient tomb which was as fun as any Indiana Jones escape. Shane and Red’s relationship is steadfast and compelling throughout. Fi keeps her plans close so we are guessing as much as anyone else how she will defeat the Spindle Witch.
Overall, this was a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy. I do wish there had been a bit more interaction between Fi and Briar for a steamy romance but Red and Shane’s relationship gave us that in spades. I highly recommend this series for fans of Sleeping Beauty or Fairytale Retellings in general.
