The early graphic novel format is easy to follow for children that may be new to the format. It contains a glossary of important terms that Kim learns about the justice system and courts when she first visits her mom at work as a Judge, and then when she calls a trial over missing bicycles in the neighborhood. This would be great in early elementary to go along with a social studies unit on community helpers and the government. The plot skips around a bit and takes broad strokes to resolve the conflict that would help keep a younger child’s attention and stay focused on the terminology it is introducing. The illustrations are bright and inviting and the format keeps the story moving.
