‘The Capitol: A Meet the Nation’s Capitol Book’ by Lindsay Ward contains easy to follow wording and pictures that emphasize what is happening on each page. With fun facts on many pages, including information such as how Congress first met in the Capitol building on November 17, 1800, to the fact that the Capitol has 658 windows, with 108 of them in the dome alone, there are so many intriguing and not so well known facts that will keep readers thoroughly interested.

The book starts out showcasing the people who work at the Capitol, from the cleaning crew and medical staff to the members of the House of Representatives and the Senate. It turns out that Capitol Hill employs thousands of people! Layouts of the Capitol building with clearly marked areas help make it evident where everything is in the building. As the characters in the book take a tour of the Capitol, they not only visit the Senate Chamber and the Rotunda, but the House Chamber, the Capitol Café, and the subway station. It so happens that there are three subway systems in the Capitol that connect the Senate and House offices outside of the building. It is used to travel between buildings. Who knew?!

The book has fun search and find aspects, such as American flags scattered throughout the pages, more than 300 works of art, a mysterious cat on each page, and so many people that there may be just too many to count. Notable facts, sources, and a glossary round out the pages of the book, giving readers everything they need to grasp the intricacies of life in the Capitol building, from who works there to what kind of work those people do.
