Jim the crocodile finds the courage to face his fear of swimming in this funny and charming debut picture book for fans of Jabari Jumps and Jean Reidy’s Truman!

Jim the crocodile is scared of swimming—or rather, of sinking. His family’s swamp is just too deep, too dark, and too big. But maybe he could swim, if only there were a smaller swamp where he could try it on his own terms. Jim wiggle-waggles far and wide until he finds the perfect place.

With the help of some floaties and his sisters, Jim just might find the courage to face his fear and show everyone—including himself—that Jim can swim!

What I liked:
Swim Jim takes a real fear of deep swimming holes and puts it into a funny perspective. Imagine a crocodile in a swimming floaties afraid of sinking because he can't see the bottom of his family's swimming hole? The cover and inside flap of the book gives children some clues as to what is lurking in the pages of this story surrounding a very cautious crocodile.
I like the addition of facts about crocodiles included at the end of the book, as well as some suggested books that children might enjoy if they want to learn more about crocodiles. Children come in all forms of bravery, and having a character that is nervous about a widespread thing makes the story more enduring to the reader.
Final Verdict:
If you have a nervous swimmer, Swim Jim might help them open up more about how they are feeling, and maybe they like to try some floaties in a more shallow option than the local swimming pool. They even can use the Jim chant to help them as they learn how much fun swimming can be.
