PARKER'S BIG FEELINGS is a charming early reader about having a bad day and the tools you can use to help yourself feel better. Parker is the new kid at school, and nothing is going her way. When she comes home, she wants to just read her book, but her siblings have other ideas. When her mother checks in with her, she realizes that Parker is having big feelings, and they come up with a list of things she can do to feel better. She does all three, and by the end, she is feeling better!

What I loved: This is a great story to teach about ways to help with big feelings. The backmatter also includes some additional context for parents to help children find tools that will work for them. Parker tries breathing, exercising, and quiet time, all great things to start on the path to managing big feelings. Simple illustrations and large, clear text will aid in early readers devouring this book themselves. Great themes and recognizable characters add to the fun of the book, and make this a great choice for beginning independent readers.

Final verdict: PARKER'S BIG FEELINGS is a great early reader that tackles a big theme well - how to handle big feelings and a bad day. Recommend for early elementary school aged readers who are taking steps to independent reading.
