SLIDE AND SEE FIRST WORDS: ANIMALS is a cute board book that uses slides to introduce some early animal words. Each spread includes a different variety of slides to reveal words that show animals or answer questions about animals. Simple and colorful illustrations of animals are found on each sturdy page.

What I loved: The coolest part of this book is definitely the slide features that pull out over individual words or have a slide that reveals all the hidden words. There are 3 hidden on each page. The interactive nature of the book is definitely the biggest draw. Cute animals on each page add to the fun as children explore.

What left me wanting more: The words aren't really all animals with some answering questions about the different animals and others conveying animal sounds. The lack of focus does not give the obvious picture-word groupings that would be great for early word recognition. Some of the facts are not so clearcut as well. For instance, whether giraffe sounds would be bleating is in question, with some saying they actually hum. As another small thing, saying that cats want to drink milk is somewhat true, but leaves out that they also need water and most of their diet would not be from milk.

As another small thing, the slides are a bit tricky for little fingers, particularly the small ones as they stick a bit. Some of them also move on their own, which may be frustrating for little ones who are trying to do it themselves.

Final verdict: Overall, SLIDE AND SEE FIRST WORDS: ANIMALS is an interactive board book that features fun slides with cute animal illustrations.
