Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry
User reviews
I honestley think you should only read this book only if you have spare time on your hands. This book takes place in Mississippi where Cassie Logan goes through life with her family without her dad. Along the way she encounters humilation from the whites that are killing and even burning blacks homes and what they hold dearest to themselves thier land .
After reading the book Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, I would much rather recommend the movie because I really liked it and I understood the story more.
The movie was very detailed in its actions. For example, when T.J came to the Logans house hurt and desperate for help. I thought that this was detailed because T.Js character is very talented in acting.
Even though the movie was much more disorganized than the book, I still thought that it was very clear in its order. For example, when Cassie picks up Lillian Jeans books and apologizes to her for her actions in Strawberry, the movie skips straight to the scene in the school house.
I would recommend the movie to any one who has already read the book.
I remember reading this book for a civil rights unit in 8th grade English. The story was fine, and historical angle of the events seemed reasonably accurate from what I've learned in history classes. However, our class read another book called Warriors Don't Cry, a nonfiction story of a girl during the Civil Rights period. It was based on her diary, so it detailed actual events that happened to her. I think middle schoolers tend to respond more enthusiastically to true events (I know my class did, myself included), knowing that everything they read about was actually somebody's life, which is why I believe Warriors Dont Cry was a better curriculum choice. So, for school, Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry is an okay choice, but a nonfiction book would be more effective.
This book was about a girl named cassie. It was time when whit people could controll black people. Or the whites had there own bathroom or facility. And the blacks had there own facility. cassie has a very big problem whith lilian Jean.(a White)And her dad is trying to kill the black people or make them loos their jobs. Also cassie's family is strugling with Mr.Granger. He is trying to take cassies land. Then Mr.Lilian Jean's dad comes to tj's house and tries to kill him because he stole a gun. Then Mr. granger sais no and tells lilians dad that there was a fire heading this way. so they all go ant try and put the fire out. So then tj does not get killed.
Roll of Thnder is an Ok book. It's not the best in the world though. The book is about an African-American family the Logans. The main focuse is on Cassie. The other characters are Christopher-John, Little man, Stacey, theie mom, grandma, and various other people. In the begining the book seems really boring. but it really starts to heat up around chapter 5. If you have an interest in historic fiction, then you might like this book
Roll of thunder, hear my cry is a great book with interesting new words that just want to make you open up a million dictionaries and look up all the interesting words in the book. The word I think is most interesting is the word clinged, I just love that word especailly loved how the author used the word.
This book is a good book about a family in the great depression. At the end of the book you end up feel ing bad for the family because they go through a lot of thing that arent to good.
The characters are pretty cool because they all have a different personality.Little Man,(is a neat freak)Cassie,(shes stobbern)T.J.,(bad influence)
