"A stampede's a comin'!" shouts Mary McBlicken, and thus begins a romp through the prairie, where we get to meet a few animals who may be unfamiliar but who live in the unique ecosystem of the prairie, "where bison roam." Jackie Mims Hopkins has managed to add an interesting twist to this classic story, and writes in a rhythmic verse that is fun to read aloud (and in whatever Western-ish accent you may choose). Follow Mary the prairie chicken and her friends as they make their way to warn Cowboy Stan and Red Dog Dan of the coming disaster in this simple but fun book.
