How do monsters get where they’re going? In a silly showcase of vehicles, Daisy Hirst offers a fresh spin on a favorite toddler subject.

There’s more than one way for a little monster to travel! Skeeter speeds by on a scooter, and Willa likes to walk. Beatrice and Bobby take the bus, and there goes Rodney riding a rabbit! Kieran has high hopes of getting there by kite, and then there’s Catya, being carried by a cat. Every vehicle-loving toddler who likes a good giggle—and what toddler doesn’t?—will come running for Daisy Hirst’s charming and colorful ode to things that go.

MONSTERS GO is an adorable board book about all the ways that monsters may travel. The book gives the ways that different monsters choose to travel, such as Skeeter taking a scooter and Willa taking a walk. At the end, all the monsters travel back home together by trike!

What I loved: This is a really cute board book with plenty of silly to make toddlers giggle, such as Catya being carried by a cat and Danni being delivered with dinner (a pizza box). Each choice of transportation contains some alliteration to help with early sound recognition. As children begin to look at the words, they may begin to pick up on some letter-sound associations through these fun monsters. The colorful monsters on simple backgrounds work well for young readers who will enjoy simplicity and seeing these monsters on the go. The ending works well to show the monsters heading home after a busy day of travel.

Final verdict: MONSTERS GO is an adorable and silly board book that is sure to charm toddlers.
