Letters in Charcoal is a tribute to the many stories the author, Irene Vasco, has collected as a reading promoter in Columbia. It is a shocking realization to learn so many still today grow up with illiteracy. This story highlights how motivation and kindness can unlock the world of reading and how powerful that can be. Overall, this is a good book to raise awareness of the issue of illiteracy and the power of reading.
