Kid Review: Mouse & Giraffe by Kelly DiPucchio

About This Book:

New York Times bestselling author Kelly DiPucchio presents how two friends with very different perspectives learn how to see eye to eye.

Mouse and Giraffe don’t agree on anything.

They live on the same street, but their experiences couldn’t be more different. On sunny days, Mouse is comfortable in the shade, while Giraffe is so tall, he overheats in the sun. On rainy days, Giraffe is dry above the clouds, while Mouse gets stuck in the storm. What will it take for Mouse and Giraffe to learn that perspective is all about walking in someone else’s shoes?

New York Times bestselling author Kelly DiPuccio and celebrated illustrator Jen Corace have created a relatable tale about two unlikely friends who finally see eye to eye.

Excellent Text to Teach Perspective

Mouse and Giraffe have trouble agreeing. They are not trying to be difficult or malicious but their lack of communication and trying to see the other’s perspective leads to many misunderstandings. It is the perfect text to use to help children understand perspective and how the same exact events can lead to vastly different interpretations of what happened. Things are not just “the facts” because of our viewpoint and where we are coming from. There are so many extension activities that could be used with this book as an anchor text. From an enjoyment standpoint, readers may become frustrated that the characters are having problems but feel better once Giraffe notices Mouse needs help and they come together for a happy ending. From a teaching standpoint, it is excellent!
