This is by far one of my favorite YA books of all time! I found it in the used section of our local book store and thought I'd give it a shot. Once I picked it up I didn't stop reading, and finished it in a matter of hours. The characters are perfectly matched and you aren't loaded down with tons of needless detail. It's a new take on vampires that I hadn't read before, which I always love! The story flows from start to finish and when I reached the end I wanted so much more. I've waited more than a year to get my hands on the second book.
Good Points
New twist on a vampire tale.

Book Review: Awesome! This was one of the first books vampire books I
ever read after I read Twilight. I basically only picked it up because
of the pretty cover and because the summary said something about
vampires. Jessica is sort of my half twin. She is mostly all about logic
and seeing is believing. This is why she can't accept the truth when
her parents tell her that she is a betrothed vampire. She meets
beautiful Lucius and acts like she actually doesn't like it that she has
a hot vampire following her around. Lucius is kind of stuck up from the
beginning and is appalled that Jessica is outside mucking the stalls.
He gets better at the end because Jessica humbles him. She denies her
love for him until it almost gets them killed. She finally proves to
Lucius that she loves him by offering the only thing she has, herself.
This book was a whole new breath of air since Lucius and Jessica can be
killed by stakes and they even drink from each other. I love this book
and Beth kept me entertained with little pieces of Lucissica when I
least expected it. Beth is a fabulous author and proves it in this book
and her new one coming out this year, Jekyll and Hyde. Go check it
out!!!

This book is absolutely a 5 star book!!!

Lucius was great! I love how he acted threatening and scary (or tried) but you could really see that he cared for Jessica the whole book! I could completely understand Jessica's feelings when she finds out she is a European Vampire Princess! Instead of being a normal teenager, she is meant to stop a Vampire war. It turns her life around and she has to learn to deal with everything that is thrown at her.

I loved reading about Jessica's problems and about her interactions with Lucius (love him!). :D

At first, because of the title, I thought it was going to be really fluffy and light. Boy, was I wrong! It was actually a pleasant surprise!

There was much more depth than I thought there would be. This book's uniqueness also impressed me very much. I absolutely loved the romance between Lucius and Jessica because it was totally believable. It's not one of those love at first sight books. Their relationship took more time to develop and that's what made it really believable.

Bottom line, this is definitely a book to be read by all!

Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side
Beth Fantaskey
Release Date: February 1, 2009
Publisher: Harcourt
Pages: 351

Rating: 5 stars

The undead can really screw up your senior year . . .

Marrying a vampire definitely doesn't fit into Jessica Packwood's senior year "get-a-life" plan. But then a bizarre (and incredibly hot) new exchange student named Lucius Vladescu shows up, claiming that Jessica is a Romanian vampire princess by birthand he's her long-lost fiancé. Armed with newfound confidence and a copy of Growing Up Undead: A Teen Vampire's Guide to Dating, Health, and Emotions, Jessica makes a dramatic transition from average American teenager to glam European vampire princess.
But when a devious cheerleader sets her sights on Lucius, Jess finds herself fighting to win back her wayward prince, stop a global vampire warand save Lucius's soul from eternal destruction.

Debut author, Beth Fantaskey, delivers a spectacular book with a twist on dating a vampire. Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side is a book to keep you reading late into the night - I read straight through it!

The characters were fantastic! I loved Lucuis, right off the bat he gives a vibe that you shouldn't like him, but you cannot help yourself. Jess was your typical American girl. When she first saw Lucuis, she didn't just throw herself at Lucuis like a majority of girls would do.

Jess and Lucuis's relationship developed nicely. At first, there was resentment on both parts, but more with Jess. As time went on you saw both shed that resentment, and day by day grow closer and eventually fall in love.

Lucuis writes letter to his uncle throughout the book, and every one had me laughing. The letters also allow you to see Lucuis grow as a character, and grow away from the duty he was entrusted and turn it to love for Jess.

The ending was adorable, and left me wanting more (though it's totally satisfying as a stand-alone novel too)! I cannot wait for more from Beth Fantaskey.

I cant help being excited about this book. I dont know if this is now my favorite vampire novel, topping Twilight, or if it ties. With twists, turns, and monsters jumping out of every hidden corner, how could I not love this novel? Jessica is a normal American teen, or so she thinks. Lucius is a sarcastic, gentlemanly, vampire. How are these two supposed to her along? Jessica turns to her parents for help but they were just so excited to get insider information on the vampires, that they dont see the problem. I really love the cover of this book. I think its elegant looking and I love the writing used for the title. My favorite character is Lucius I love his personality. He is sarcastic and can be kind of mean but hes cute and funny and a real gentleman. Looking for more Beth Fantaskey? I couldn't find any other novels that she has written but check out her website at: http://www.bethfantaskey.com/. This novel is so great and is a pretty fast read; this romantic sarcastic book is recommended by me to everyone.

Debut author Beth Fantaskey
explodes onto the heavily populated YA vampire lit world with her amazing book,
JESSICAS GUIDE TO DATING ON THE DARK SIDE, which is sure to convert Twilight
fans into having a new favorite vampire and vampire-novel heroine. Or if it
doesnt do that, then at least it will leave you smiling, biting your nails,
and reading far into the night.

In rural Pennsylvania, math nerd
Jessica Packwood is about to enter her senior year of high school, determined
to have a good time, potentially date Jake Zinn, a nice and handsome boy in her
grade, and win some more math competitions. But her carefully imagined plan
goes down the drain with the arrival of Lucius Vladescu, a hot but arrogant
student from Romania who is under the unfortunate delusion that he is a vampire
prince destined to marry Jessica, who is apparently a vampire princess from a
rival vampire family. Their marriage would end a centuries-long war between the
two families and ensure peace for all their vampire relatives.

Jessica, who loves scientific
facts, is understandably confused, scared of her reluctant attraction to Lucius
and unable to believe the parlor tricks that he performs: a flash of fangs
here, a miraculous recovery from a serious injury there. But just as she begins
to finally believein Lucius, in herselfLucius suddenly begins to court Faith
Crosse, the evil-souled reigning cheerleader-slash-prom-queen of Woodrow Wilson
High, and Jessica finds herself struggling to win him back, and not just for
the sake of her own heart. For if she doesnt, both vampire families, not to
mention Lucius, could end up being destroyed.

Wow! It is almost unfortunate that
this book has such an unwieldy and frothy, though eye-catching, title, because
I did not realize the extent of what I was in for when I started reading.
Jessica and Lucius are two of the best main characters that I have read about
in a long time: they are fully three-dimensional and undergo incredible growth
through the 350-some pages. Lucius intensity and arrogance makes me
simultaneously laugh and be attracted to him at the same time, and some of my
favorite chapters were those that consisted of Lucius letters to his uncle
back in Romania. The relationship that develops between Jessica and Lucius
seems totally natural, the growing love not forced. The plot goes beyond a typical
Twilight spinoff (which all current YA vampire novels are inevitably being
compared to), and reaches its awe-inspiring conclusion wonderfully.

Action, love, mortal danger,
family, humorJESSICAS GUIDE TO DATING ON THE DARK SIDE has everything. I am
wholeheartedly a fan, and you will be too.

this book is soooooo good.
i is different form the other vampire books ive read. its not the same, boy gets girl, girl figures out or is told that hes a vampire, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back. most vampire books are like that but this one is different, its so interesting and i love how lucius gets killed in front of her right after she finds out he totally loves her! its so supenceful and i love the ending, this book is great (of coarse it helps that i am totally in love with vampires and everything about them (LOVE FANGS).

Wow! I loved this book! I had very high expectations for this novel and it definitely rose up to the occasion!

This
book has the two ingredients that make me pick up a book. First, it has
a beautiful. Secondly, and most importantly, ITS ABOUT VAMPIRES! I love
love loveee vampire books.
Fantaskey mixed in so many
different elements. Like many vampire books there were the old powerful
royal families. Then, like many other vampire books there was the
trendy high school style that isn't cliche vampire at all. She mixed
the two together unlike any other book I have read.

One
of my favorite parts of this book was how Jessica wouldn't believe that
Lucius was a vampire. It usually bothers me when characters just
believe people right away when they say their supernatural. Jessica's
reaction was so much more realistic, not to mention funny!

There
are only two problems I have with this book. First, I hated Faith's
character. I wish she never existed! I felt like she took away from
Jessica and Lucius's relationship and made it slightly unconvincing. I
also hate that this is a one time deal. Please please please make this
into a series! It was fabulous!

If you haven't read Jessica's Guide, do it! 5/5
