The Snowy Nap:
In the gentle tale, THE SNOWY NAP, Little Hedgie is getting sleepy and knows it is getting time to hibernate. Yet, as he says goodbye to all his farmyard friends, they tell Hedgie of all the fun that they will have playing in Winter. Hedgie no longer wants to sleep because he is so curious. Thankfully, the human friend, Lisa, brings him inside and lets him gaze each day upon all the fun the winter can bring. This book has idyllic illustrations and conveys a sense of awe and wonder for winter joy. This book is perfect for animal lovers and for those who love snow time play.

The Hat:
In this humorous tale, THE HAT, little Hedgie gets stuck in one of Lisa’s woolens that blew off the line when he curiously tried to investigate. He feels embarrassed as he struggles to get it off and each farm animal comes to ask what he is doing. If you pay attention to the border illustrations you will get a hint about which animal will visit Hedgie next and if you look up at the top of the clothesline you can start to see that something strange is happening with the clothes. The illustrations along the border help give young readers practice in noting details and making predictions. By the time Lisa realizes what is happening there is a humorous surprise sure to amuse readers young and old. This is a sweet picture book sure to delight readers.

Cozy the muskox loses sight of his herd during the cold Alaskan winter. As he starts to miss his family one by one nearby animals seek shelter around and under his warm pelt. With each page, a new part of the refrain is added on how to be polite neighbors. The illustrations are gorgeous and the borders help give a reader a hint about what animal will visit next. Sprinkled through this tale of unlikely friendship is great vocabulary that many young readers are unlikely to have encountered. Overall, this is a great story for young readers who like books about Winter, animals, or Alaska.

The Three Snow Bears:
The Three Snow Bears is the Alaskan version of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Aloo-ki loses her dog sled team on an ice floe but finds a nice igloo with food, boots, and nice furs to sleep in. The three bears save the dogs and aren’t very happy to find their belongings disturbed upon their return. Aloo-ki escapes quickly and the bears seem to harbor no ill will towards her. For readers who like twists on familiar fairytales and nursery stories, this is a good choice.

Overall, this is a great deal to receive four of Jan Brett's books in one boxed collection.
