Enter the dark, magical world of The House of Night, a world very much like our own, except here vampyres have always existed. Sixteen-year-old Zoey Redbird has just been Marked as a fledgling vampyre and joins the House of Night, a school where she will train to become an adult vampire. That is, if she makes it through the Change--and not all of those who are Marked do. It sucks to begin a new life, especially away from her friends, and on top of that, Zoey is no average fledgling. She has been chosen as special by the vampyre Goddess Nyx. Zoey discovers she has amazing powers, but along with her powers come bloodlust and an unfortunate ability to Imprint her human ex-boyfriend. To add to her stress, she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers: When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite group, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny--with a little help from her new vampyre friends.

This series is very addicting. The writing is okay, but it still keeps you reading. I liked most of the characters except for Zoey, the main character. She was all right at first but gets to be annoying later is the series. The story is really good but the characters and writing bring it down.

This is about a girl named Zoey who  has been marked meaning she has to go to the school for vampires the house of night. She has ordinary problems as every teenage girl but the only difference is she's a vampire. This novel has typical teen topics like drama , gossip  ,catfights parties and popular people. On her first day at the house of night  she made some friends and some enemies. She found out the reason everyone stared at her was because she was a special fledgling/student. She has a rivalry with the prettiest girl in school. Can she survive high school that's the question especially if she's a vampire who might die if she dosen't handle the change well. Overall this is a good start to the series and it is quite suspenceful with some unexpected twists.

Typical teen fiction that has so many things in it that I don't like in a book but somehow I really liked it! It's Twilight without emo-girl and sparkley vampires. It's vampire Mean Girls meets Buffy. It's so wrong that it's right! How could I not love a country music loving vampire called Stevie Rae?

I'm not sure about the vampire-lore of this book and the overly detailed descriptions of what every character was wearing each time they were seen bugged the hell out of me. About half way through I was starting to worry that there wasn't going to be any plot to the book as up until then it was pretty much explaining everything. The rest of the book developed nicely though and while there still wasn't a great amount of plot there, it was clearly setting up the rest of the series.

The preview of book 2 seems to get right to the point though so hopefully there won't be a repeat of everything before getting into the plot of that one.

Maybe not a literary classic but a fun read for vampire fans

I like this book. I know were supposed to give more and I will. I just wanted that to be first. I like the way Zoey thinks. Its like I think and even though I know these things will never happen, it seems like it could happen and like this is a person with a real reaction to it. And not that morbid "I want to die" stuff that you mostly find in vampire books.
The book is about a totally normal teenage girl who goes to school one day and gets Marked to be a vampyre. After having a not so nice talk with her parents she goes to the House of Night, a school for fleglings, to complete the change from human to fledgling to vampyre. But Zoeys not normal anymore even for a fledgling. Zoey has been blessed by the goddess Nyx. She has a very unique mark that makes her diffrent from every fledgling that ever lived. Not only that but she also has an ability to control all five elements.
There are people who wish Zoey had never been marked. And they don't keep there thoughts to themselves. But they can't stop Zoey from being special so they decide to invite Zoey to join the Dark Daughters, an elite group of fledglings with special priviliges, and come to a special cerimony to be held on Halloween night. But the cerimony goes wrong and terrible demons are released and Zoey has to get them all back in before they hurt more people. When she succeeds she is made leader of the Dark Daughters.

synopsis

The House of Night series is set in a world very much like our own, except in 16-year-old Zoey Redbird's world, vampires have always existed. In this first book in the series, Zoey enters the House of Night, a school where, after having undergone the Change, she will train to become an adult vampire - that is, if she makes it through the Change. Not all of those who are chosen do. It's tough to begin a new life, away from her parents and friends, and on top of that, Zoey finds she is no average fledgling. She has been Marked as special by the vampire Goddess, Nyx. But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers. When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school's most elite club, is misusing her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny - with a little help from her new vampire friends.

I had mixed feelings about this book, i liked it but i felt like there was something missing.I like Zoey, you can connect with her like boyfriend problems and wanting to fit in. I was watching some of P.C. and Kristin cast interviews and some of the characters are based off People they know. Zoey Redbird is just hilarious. She seems to be fitting in at the House of night really well, she wants it to be her home. Her love life's just everywhere(believe me it gets worse) Zoey is not like every other fledgling, the Goddess Nyx has a "misson" for her, she dicovers what the"misson" is and has it defeat it  while juggling her love squarish relationship in the other books.

this book is a rewrite of a classic vampire story, evry elements there, friends, enemys, love, vampires. this book has a bit of a difrent way for someone to become a vampire, your marked on the fourhead with a cresint moon, then you go to a school to learn to become a vampire, and the complete change takes a few years.

the entire book is about a girl named zoey, a normal teenage girl going through a break up, and then she was marked, but her parents refuse to let her go, soshe runs of to the vampire school on her own, but the strange thing about zoey is, she's only in the premuture stages of being a vampire and her marks already all the way filled in. so now shes in a new scool learning to be a vampire, but she still has to deal with the popular girls like aphrodite.but shes meeting new friends who are helping her figure it all out.

Marked is the first book in the extraordinary House of Night series. Its about Zoey Redbird, your average teenage girl. She goes to a normal high school, dates the star quarterback, has preppy friends. But that all changes one day when she is Marked. Kids get marked a lot. You always hear about it. But its not your friends, and NEVER you. If youre marked, it means youre going to become a vampire. If you survive the change.

Zoey is moved there almost immediately. Her mom is shocked. But more than her mom, her step-loser, a member of the People of Faith, is convinced she worships satan. The only one who supports her is her grandmother.

Zoey is moved into the House of Night School and roomed with Stevie Rae. She befriends Stevie Rae, along with Damien, and Shaunee and Erin (the twins). She soon learns that life is much different here, and shes also gotten on the bad side of Aphrodite, one of the girls there, and also a member of the Dark Daughters, an elite group of students with special privileges who have ceremonies honoring the god Nyx. Zoey is invited to join the group, but her friends dont like that idea. Zoey has to watch her back around every corner. Especially after she realizes she has an affinity for each of the five elements.

Its a modern tale thats very realistic (other than the vampires) and its a great read. Anyone who likes fantasy should definitely read it.

Unlike our world, vampyres have always existed in 16 year old Zoey Redbird's world. But she's shocked at school when a Tracker marks her as a fledging vampire. And now she has to get to the vampyre boarding school, House of Night.

Sadly, Zoe's mother and stepfather do nothing to help her. In fact they try to get their family shrink and prayer group to save her. So, Zoe tries to go to her grandmother to get help. On the way thereshe gets hurt, and recieves a vision from Nyx (the Vampire Goddess) and learns that she is to be the ears and eyes of Nyx.

When Zoe awakens she finds herself, with her grandmother, at the House of Night.

There, she learns that she's special, different from other, as her mark is filled in, unlike the other fledgings. Regardless, Zoe makes new friends (but also manages to make an enemy of powerful Aphrodite.)

Conflicts and romance ensue and the end will leave you begging for more.

I had very few issues with this book, one was that at times it moved fairly slowly and the other was that the authors sort of dumbed down the language.
