A prickly kitten and the child who chooses it revel in being kindred spirits while they both learn how to live with their wild side.

When a little girl adopts a tigerish stray kitten from the shelter, her family isn't sure about her choice. But she can see that she and the kitten have lots in common as they both have a tendency to lash out when they’re uncomfortable. The little girl does her best to be patient and give her kitten plenty of space, treating it the way she likes to be treated. And in doing so, somehow they figure out just the right ways to help calm each other. A poignant text and evocative art make this story about two friends who share the heart of a tiger a standout.

What I liked:
A scrappy stray kitten brought home with no reason to trust its new owner is prickly, scratchy, and not at all the loveable kitten that was anticipated. But as the story progresses, the owner learns that the stray soon becomes her best friend if she is quiet, patient, and loving. We all know what it is like to be in a new place, with new people, but slowly, we learn that it is not so bad. Excellent illustrations of this charming orange tabby cat are featured on each page of this children's book, and I think all animal lovers would enjoy this book.
Final Verdict:
We all need companionship, and though a stray can be prickly when first brought home, once trust is established, nothing can break that bond.
