Creep, Leap, Crunch! was a great read aloud book about the food chain.
The text is lyrical, and akin to 'The Old Lady that Swallowed a Fly.' Unlike reading about the woman that swallowed a fly, Shaffer included periods, so the book isn't one long run-on sentence. Parents! You can take a breath!
The story is highly informational, without scaring younger children; less clinical and more full of life.
I really like how the author included both the ending expected, as well as the ending where each animal eluded their fate and survived another day.
The author included a nice glossary in the back, to help children with bigger words, phrases, or animals they may be unfamiliar with.

The illustrations are nice. They aren't too cartoony, and the colors seem true to nature. The images show action with each animal/organism.
